Is rebranding ruining football, we are sure to get a mention ?
Thinking we were going to be left behind, I once asked a renowned commentator on Sky Sports) the question:
"Do you think we are moving towards a 'franchise' Premier League in this country?" He said:
"I think so. As more and more 'ambitious' owners buy clubs as a play thing, there will be changes that will upset grass root supporters and will lead to a tighter, more insular competition with smaller clubs effectively 'cut off' because they can never meet the criteria to 'join the elite clubs' at the top. My worry is that this could evolve into a European Super League and take away the very teams that make the Premier League what it is"That was 5 or 6 years ago and the seeds have been sewn for both to occur; although personally I sincerely hope the move to a European Super League (above and beyond the current Champions League) never happens
The template has been in the USA for many years and (importantly for the owners) it draws in the crowds and makes money
Unfortunately, it is what it is and what Tan as done will pale into insignificance now that other clubs are reaching outside of their communities to survive
I am not happy with (so-called) rebranding but I do understand it to some extent
More than ever the loyalty of some clubs fans will be tested beyond and some will argue this has happened to us
You really think so?
Hmmm, watch this space with regard to 'other' clubs. I have a feeling we have got away lightly so far...
