Crystal Palace plan Darren Bent and Jefferson Montero double transfer swoop

Eagles looking to hijack Fulham bid for Bent whilst also targeting Morelia's Ecuador winger Montero

Crystal Palace are lining up a double swoop for England striker Darren Bent and Ecuador winger Jefferson Montero.

Eagles boss Ian Holloway hopes to hijack Fulham’s bid to land out-of-favour Bent from Aston Villa as he looks to recruit a proven Premier League goalscorer ahead of Palace’s return to the top flight.

The Londoners have agreed personal terms with Bent, 29, and are now hoping that Villa will lower their £6million asking price so that a deal can be done.

Holloway also has his sights on beating fellow top-flight new boys Cardiff to the signature of Montero, the Ecuadorian winger who plays for Mexican club Morelia.

The Bluebirds’ offer of £3million does not match Morelia’s valuation and Palace are hoping to now take advantage of the stalemate to make a move.

The 23-year-old has European experience with Villarreal, Levante and Real Betis and Holloway has identified him as the replacement for Wilfried Zaha.

Palace have spent just over £7million on eight summer signings so far and Holloway wants at least five further recruits.

The Eagles are close to securing a deal for Arsenal’s Marouane Chamakh after convincing the French striker that he can resurrect his career, following three difficult years with the Gunners.

And if Palace can beat Fulham to Bent, then Holloway will have some proven Premier League firepower at his disposal.

Bent, who has made four moves, totalling £47m, since starting his career at Ipswich, was banished to the Villa Park sidelines for long periods last season after falling out of favour.

True. I think more important factors are money and 'will I be playing in the Championship next year?'. We can beat them on the first, and we have much better odds on the second. Hopefully the 'glitzy lights' of London won't be too big a draw.

Whoever offers him the most money will be the biggest draw.
