City's Transfer Activity

Sat Aug 10, 2013 8:08 pm

To date we have signed Cornelious, Brayford, Moore, Caulker and now Medel. We have broken our transfer record on 3 occasions.
In view of these signings how do you rate our transfer dealings this close season?

I believe that the club and MM deserves huge credit for the players brought inso far. :ayatollah:

It's different than I expected. I thought it would be Championship/SPL players + the good from Wigan, QPR and Reading.

So it's def exceeded my thoughts.

honestly thought it would be 8/9 players from championship/lower prem level.... not future stars or players with real world class ability!

These signings are making people take notice and other teams will take us seriously now.
Also other players may be inclined to sign for us.I wonder what ince is thinking?

I'm sure it was you who made a thread after finding out Spurs were signing Capoue saying "MM needs to wake up" and that "we need new players to gel with the squad" etc. Make your mind up.

QPR bought players who either had no re sale value or were looking for their last pay check! they bought a new team and expected it to gel straight away, didn't work

us on the other hand, keep the core of the team, build on what we need, and bring in 5-6 players that have lots of potential, and have international pedigree! all have high re sale values after one successful year in the prem!

might be risky, but not as risky as QPR as the ones we've bought are early or mid 20's

QPR signed virtually a whole new team and allot were over the hill players not motivated and looking at the pound signs!

Malky is signing players to blend I to our existing team who hungry motivated young players! Huge difference!! :ayatollah:

in seriousness, i think most Cardiff fans can see that, doesn't take a genius to work out that we're not doing what QPR done! some people just love to complain :laughing6:

I agree here. It's very exciting to see us going after these players. And I think we're doing it right - singing half a dozen players (I imagine that's how many we'll end up with) who will really make a difference, rather than buying an entirely new squad. And no doubting the quality either.

It is a risky strategy however, for a couple of reasons. Firstly, although these players look excellent, what happens if Cornelius/Medel don't adapt to the prem? There are dozens of top quality players that have done incredibly well in some leagues, then failed in others (Veron, Forlan, Crespo serve as random examples). Secondly, money doesn't guarantee success. What happens if we go down?

Despite that last paragraph, I am extremely excite though. I'm a massive pessimist - always have been!

In short, we've made great signings. However we have spent a lot of money, so I would be worried if we were splashing this kind of cash and getting any worse.

Never boring supporting Cardiff...

Re: City's Transfer Activity

My only concern is that the signings have been delayed and have come a bit late, no fault of CCFC with ince and capoue dragging their feet. shows the intent they have. just hope they can settle into the side quickly enough and have an effect from game one and hit the ground running and that we are not playing catch up after 3-4 games in. Caulkers going to have a busy season at the back, but signing of Medel will give him some protection. Hopefully Campbell and Maynard can work off Corneleus effectively, though don't want to see long balls all off the time.

But I can't help but check on the board every 5 mins! :D

Agreed. One good season and Caulker is worth £20m (you know what the market is like for young English players). Hopefully Cornelius adapts well - big men up front are a rarity nowadays, so if he hits the ground running could also have great sell on value, should we go down.

Exactly very promising signings by malky but looking at the team now and with 1-2 additions - winger, left back. think we will do rather well this season!! Fingers crossed! :ayatollah:
