Is he the striker? Luuk De Jong? Think Newcastle were after him last year?

Looks like its Siem De Jong Ajax captain. Can't see this happening at all.

Described as an attacking midfielder, another agent story I feel , can't see this one happening.

I think Malky is looking at a 4-3-3 this season and wants 6 midfielders for thos three places

Gunnar + Another DM
Mutch and Cowie as box to box
Kim and Whitts attacking

Unless he is going to push Cowie further down the pecking order and use Whitts like Mutch I can't really see this happening.

Whitts over much any day of the week.

Midfield 3 of new DM, Whitts and Kimbo at home. Away from home New DM, Gunar and either Whitts or Kimbo.

we will almost certainly be playing 3 in the middle this season, as it worked so well at the end of the last.

Felt sorry for whittenham that he got dropped just as the system was changed, he would have looked much inproved playing in that style.

There is plenty of room for all 5 of our central midfielders (assuming we go out and buy one) Gunnersson and Mutch will get plenty of games to prove themselves imo.

I thought Mutch was quality at the start and came close to matching that near the end (when it became more about not losing than winning) Whitts head also went at the end of last season so it remains to be seen if he can get focussed again (I think the fear of potentially 7 failures in 6 years may have got to him). I think Malky will continue to be defensive over offensive which is a pitty as when he was the latter (mostly in his first season) it made for some great performances.

Whitts loss of form I put down to him playing 90 mins of every game for 6 months without a rest and he got burnt out.

Yet to see what all the fuss is about with Mutch, cant say I share your sentiment on him being quality, especially at the finish, we won 1 of 7 games with him in the team. He doesnt score and doesnt create, just got a long stride so he covers ground well.

Now both fully fit again I expect Whitts to get the nod over Mutch.

Mutch has undoubtably got top class player qualities such as his great first touch and turn on the ball, but he doesn't do enough for me.

If a player is not going to work his nuts off box to box, tackle hard and chip in with a few goals, then posession wise and creativity wise he needs to be spot on (like Michael Carrick for instance).

Mutch is too sloppy at what he does, gives the ball away cheaply and doesn't always do the simple things. He's not the finished article but I'm sure that's something that can be worked on.
