" Hull City change club name "

Fri Aug 09, 2013 7:36 am

Friday 9th August 2913.

Hull City will no longer exist... meet the Hull Tigers! Club's owners rebrand side... and explain why they hate the word 'City'

Hull City will now officially be known as Hull City Tigers because the club's owners want to give the club a stronger brand identity.
Ehab and Assem Allam have decided upon the change and the latter says he wants the club to be known just as 'Hull Tigers' and that he dislikes the word City.
'Hull City is irrelevant,' he told the Hull Daily Mail. 'My dislike for the work "City" is because it is common.

'City is also associated with Leicester, Bristol, Manchester and many other clubs. In the commercial world, the shorter the name, the better. The more it can spread quickly.
'It is about identity. City is a lousy identity. Hull City Association Football Club is so long.'
The club will be marketed locally as the 'Hull City Tigers' and nationally, and internationally, just as the 'Hull Tigers'.

Assem Allam (left), chairman, and Ehab Allam, vice chairman (centre), decided to change the club's name
It had been known since its inception in 1904 as Hull City Association Football Club.
Ehab said: 'We have dropped the AFC as it is something which has become redundant.
'If anything, we have looked to strengthen our club brand and identity and we have gone back to stripes on the kit for the Tigers this year.

Changing times: It remains to be seen how Hull fans will react to the news
'The identity of the club is the Tigers, the stripes, and the colour scheme of amber and black, which remains.
'We just feel that, now being on the international stage, we need to strengthen the brand identity. AFC is redundant, it is not used by the club, the fans never mention AFC, nor do the media.
'We have dropped something that is redundant, that is of no value, and is of no use.'
The club will keep AFC on the badge on their shirt for this season.

Silly question, would you rather us be back in blue and re-named? or Cardiff City FC in red?

Scott,
I would rather us be Blue, keep our right name and badge.
I would not be happy unless we kept it all, I know badges get altered but there is altering and stripping it, totally different.

Once they start, there seems no stopping them, would I Swop lower league football for our identity back, YES but that's just me and that's how I feel

I love my club and its hurting still, not getting better, It does not feel the same.

Well if we would make a comparible likeness, I would much rather be renamed to "Cardiff Bluebirds" and play in blue, than be called Cardiff City and play in Red!

Some may agree, others may not. I can accept that.

Football clubs are a franchise these days, sad to see.

Not a big change really, their nickname is the tigers.
If vt said I'm now going to call us Cardiff City bluebirds i don't think fans would have a problem with that.

Unfortunately, it's the way the modern game at the highest level is going, we at least got a £100 million pound investment for our rebrand

Stripped of our identity and history but its ok, we have money!

I agree with the city thing I would quite like a name just "Cardiff" it's like Barcalona, because not all of their fans are from Barcalona. They come from Catalonia which is very similar to us.

Did i say it's ok???? as for our history the last time i looked it was still showing everything we have done and achieved, where has it gone???? whether any of us like it or not, without VT's financial backing, (keeping us out of the high courts, paying hmrc, paying staff on time , making huge amounts of monek available for players etc) this club was finished, dead in the water, YOU need to get your head out of your arse.

If our identity really was gone, none of you lot would support us since we are clearly not the same club anymore...or is it not true that our identity is gone?

I don't think or feel it's gone at all - CCFC feels the same to me and my family as it always has and we've been supporters since the 50s though my first game was in 1997 when I was 9!

See you are already preparing your apologise for your messiah.

Now I hope those that claim to be reluctants will wake up and see what is going on. I live in hope though.

That is f*cking horrible.

I don't doubt for a minute that Tan wanted initially to do this to us. Wether it be a name change or the nickname to be the dragons and do away with the bluebird.

At least (for now) he was swayed away from doing this.. We are still Cardiff City, under a different (and stupid) guise. Hull now sound like a MLS team or a rugby team.

Re: " Hull City change club name "

Fri Aug 09, 2013 9:02 am

Horrific. No doubt that Tan will see this and ponder....

People need to wake up and realise that rebranding clubs just isn't okay.

Other way round for me mate. I accept that images and appearances alter over time but the name should always remain.

Again fella just my opinion totally respect yours

These clueless owners... When will they learn?

They might as well rename their ground "KC and the Sunshine Band Stadium".

I have no problem with it.

We will always be the bluebirds to me, no matter what colour we play in and no matter what we are called :o
