..... Be careful ;)

"The Premier League has announced plans to investigate pubs offering live premiership football via sources other than Sky and BT.

There will be more pub visits and inspections than in any previous season following the ban of streaming site First Row Sports."

No doubt they will be snooping around fan boards for tip offs :(

Think she was showing a foreign tv channel via satelite not an internet stream. I may be wrong.

Premier league can claim against her but Sky/BT cannot .

Re: Pubs showing our games ......

Doesn't the PL realise that pubs cannot afford the stupid prices sky demand!!! My local boozer doesn't have that many people going in there but its a big pub that could fit over a 1000 people in. Sky put the price on the amount of potential people that can view their channel inside the pub. The pub was quoted just over £70,000 a year!!!!!

You've got to sell a lot of beer over the year to justify paying that sort of money plus you don't get all the games like you do with the foreign channels

Streaming, or showing domestic Sky is a big no no. Showing European satellite tv is okay for the time being, but after sky lost that case, the new one they are chasing is that the premier league logo and music are copyright protected.

I recently became a landlord and it's a minefield.

It's only Sky's greed that causes pubs to do it in the first place - some pubs pay £700+ a month for Sky Sports!!!

Just over £950 in mine if I wanted it installed... Or, just under £100 for my trusty Bulgarian job! As much as I would love to have Sky installed, I'd be bankrupt within a month or two.

Yes it is a minefield the landlady in question legally bought a greek viewing card which gave the viewer the right to watch premier games live on a saturday afternoon etc because th greek channel had the rights to show premier live the court agreed with her as they had no juristiction over foreign channels and said that she was ok to show them. Now this is the minefield the premier leagu
e have sold the rights to foreign channels but the have no control over these channels so the only way that theh could stop them is not to sell them the rights there is no way that they could restrict the cards on a geographical way because sat boxes would all have to be altered to register the isp address. The premier league have got a job on their hands. There is of course an easy way to stop it and that is dont sell the rights to foreign channels :laughing6: and they are not going to do that are they

I don't see why they have any right to stop pubs broadcasting legally foreign channels who broadcast live games, they bascially want to have their cake and eat it "We want to sell the rights to other countries but we also want to stop you watching them".

Just one other quick gripe, with the money Sky charge, surely it would be possible for them to let you pick what game you show, rather than what they decide? That might swing a few pubs around? And the 3 o'clock Saturday matches rule needs looking at.

I know that it would make me reconsider.

The internet streaming stuff in pubs is totally illegal.

Sky and BT both price base on the rateable value of your pub which isn't a good method of pricing in my opinion.

Showing football on a saturday with a 3pm kick off is illegal however you show it.

That's my understanding as well, for the time being anyway? The original article is a little misleading... scaremongering maybe?

A landlord in Barry was using Greek sky, he had a contract and when a sky official questioned him he showed him said contract and asked what law was he breaking, the official left with his tail between his legs. A contract signed by two European parties and we are in fact in Europe. I forget the figures but He reckons he was saving hundreds per month. He wasn't allowed to use the commentry though.

Re: Pubs showing our games ......

What I was trying to say was they seem to be lining up in their words raids. There have been a few pubs advertising our games and I have been to watch when we are away, and I don't want any city fans getting in the shit.

I don't know the law but they appear to be coming from a copyright perspective rather than a fair European trade.

It could be toss or it could be true.

This was just a heads up and pointing out that the powers that be can look at this forum without registering and if any "live" 3pm games were advertised might use that info.
