CARDIFF CITY FOOTBALL CLUB PLEDGE A MILLION POUND PREMIER LEAGUE DONATION TO LOCAL COMMUNITY CHARITIES

As the 2013/14 Barclays Premier League season draws near, Cardiff City Football Club and Tan Sri Vincent Tan are privileged today to announce details of an innovative charity provision as a means to support the sterling and tireless work by many in the local community.

Today we are launching our ‘Thanks a Million’ campaign, the brainchild of Tan Sri Vincent Tan which will see Cardiff City Football Club donate one million pounds to selected local charities. Furthermore, Tan Sri Vincent Tan has also pledged that Cardiff City Football Club will repeat this million pound donation annually to community based organisations for as long as he remains the club’s majority/controlling shareholder and the club remains in the Premier League.

With the input of club staff, management and players, approximately fifty Welsh connected charities and community schemes have been selected to ensure the contributions stay in Wales, supporting those who support us.Representatives of the first year selected charities have been invited to Cardiff City Stadium for an official ‘Thanks a Million’ reception, lunch and presentation on Thursday 15th August 2013, with Cardiff City Chairman Mehmet Dalman, Malky Mackay and the senior squad in attendance.

Speaking of the initiative, Tan Sri Vincent Tan said, “I firmly believe that Cardiff City’s promotion to the Premier League after a long fifty one year wait to play at the top level is a blessing – and with the grace of God we want to use this blessing positively to support the charitable organisations and disadvantaged members of the South Wales community, in particular in Cardiff and the valleys where most of our supporters are based.

“Our promotion to the best league in the world is by no means the result of one person, but the collective hardworking efforts of many good people, namely management, coaches, staff, players and most importantly the fans of this great club. Together we can look forward to the challenge and excitement of the season ahead, and for every year we remain in the Premier League and I remain the majority and controlling shareholder, all at Cardiff City Football Club are honoured to share our Premier League rewards with the local community, helping those in need.”

Cardiff City Chairman Mehmet Dalman added, “On behalf of all at Cardiff City I’d like to place on record my thanks and appreciation to Tan Sri Vincent Tan for this substantial million pound charity donation initiative. I am given to understand this is the first time a Premier League club is making a charitable effort of this nature, and if that is true, then as the Club Chairman, I am indeed happy and proud to be a part of it.”

“The club’s backing of community organisations across Cardiff and the valleys deserves great credit, which all of us are proud to be associated with. I am sure that this donation will be well received and utilised, while all at Cardiff City Football Club look forward to continuing our longstanding community support for years to come.”

...and this is why I'm happy to put my personal preference aside in terms of colour/identity and i am happy to let Tan do it his way. I wonder how many more lives this will change and that's not forgetting the other stuff that the club does such as disabled football and community events.

If our owners were clowns like Blackburn's I'd kick up a fuss but considering Tan is bringing a lot to the table which will of course better people's lives then I see no reason too.

The football club represents the community and Tan is supporting it. Without that community then what does the club truly stand for? As I've said before, the club is more than a colour or badge and of course I'd rather us be blue as change takes time to come to terms with but the club is a collective if things you just prioritise and to me, the welfare and livelihoods of those in the community outweigh my personal preference on the clubs brand image.

Nail on the head.

This club has been so out of touch with the community, hence why surrounding areas such as Merthyr support Liverpool etc, with the club's help on helping the local areas, the children of this generation will feel more happy to support Cardiff. You can't fault his commitment to this football club. I'd really like it if VT and fans against him could work on the same wave length. Instead of this continued slanging match. It'd be great to see VT open up and take ideas to help this great football club to new heights. It would be a match made in heaven if we can work together. :ayatollah:

More PR stunts to put Tan in a positive light to win fans over and sell more red shirts. A great gesture but whatever Tan does won't change my opinion on my feelings of the rebrand. I don't see why anyone should put the rebrand to one side because of gestures like this. Either you want us back in blue or you don't and you're either willing to fight for our blue or your not. It's a shame because gestures like this shows that Tan can be a good guy. I appreciate all the good he is doing to our club and community. But whatever good Tan does will never change me from wanting us back in blue.

PR Stunt and another million to pay him back on once he bails, atleast its for good causes, one minute we are losing over a million a month now we are giving it away each season  :ayatollah:

A PR stunt??????, I give up with some of you, wake up ffs, VT is the best thing thats ever happened to CCFC and you're whinging about a colour, id rather be Blue, but I give up blue anyday to have an owner as forward thinking and astute as this man :x

Dyed in the wool Blue here but PR stunt? Nope. Its well documented that Tan is very much
a philanthropist over in Malaysia. He gives loads away to charities. There are far far cheaper
ways of getting good publicity. Cant fault this

Tonteg is claiming its a ploy to sell more red shirts? He'd have to sell over 30000 of the things just to break even

Fantastic gesture from VT, kind of puts our constant whingeing about the 'despicable actions of a tyrant' in changing the clubs colours, into perspective! This kind of contribution, will have a real effect on making a lot of local people's lives a lot more happier and bearable. Well done VT and Cardiff City

Re: CITY DONATE A MILLION TO WELSH CHARITIES

This is not a publicity stunt. In Asia Tan Sri is a well known philanthropist. He clearly has more money than he can spend in a lifetime and is putting some of that money to use for the benefit of others.

I would go as far to say that we have possibly one if the best owners in the country

Re: CITY DONATE A MILLION TO WELSH CHARITIES

Makes BU look a bit silly now.
As much as I want us back in Blue, if he keeps doing things like this we can play in pink for all I care.
What a bloke eh? :ayatollah:
We have never had an owner come anywhere near what he has done for the club or local community! :malky:

That attitude is cold hearted bloody mindedness. Whilst you may believe you are taking part in some kind of guerrilla warfare and 'fighting' for the blue shirt, the reality is your in a minority who simply cannot understand that times are changing and we can't carry on losing money forever.

This gesture by VT is fantastic and very generous. It conflicts completely with the stories about him by BU as being a dictator and Annis' claim he 'crushes people'

It also tells me that he is very confident about our future because we can now afford to give away a relatively huge amount of money to local charities. Great man IMO.

In a very poor attempt to discredit VT you have actually highlighted how much he has changed this club. As you say we were losing a million a month, now we can afford to give that amount away to good causes every season. That is a fantastic turn around and when the debt is turned to equity another stick to beat VT with will disappear.

Re: CITY DONATE A MILLION TO WELSH CHARITIES

Whatever your view of the owners and whatever the motives behind this donation, the bottom line is that a lot of worthwhile causes will be benefiting from much needed money. That can only be good.

I think 1977 comments were tongue in cheek to be fair.

You are right though Tony there will be one less stick to beat Tan with after the equity exchange, but they will always have their ONE reason to hate him amongst the many reason to embrace what he has done overall. The majority of users on this messageboard are on side with VT these days, the support he will get from the people who don't follow the clubs day to day activity as we all do will be, as he says '95% positive'

No doubt BU will be a thorn in the side of, not VT alone, but CARDIFF CITY FC, but I'm sure as the season progresses it will fizzle out and we can unite as a set of fans and crack on with what's important, supporting the club.

I respect VT, he's made pledges about player recruitment, ground expansion, settling up with SH, new training ground, debt to equity and also removed the egg, as of this moment he's been true to his word and judging by what he's achieved so far I have no doubt the debt to equity part and the training ground will happen in the foreseeable future.
Now he's going to contribute one million pounds to local charities every year for as long as he's the majority shareholder at our club and we have the less visionary amongst us still berating him and calling it a PR stunt..unbelievable!
I believe we have a true leader at this club now and being "the winner" that he unquestionably is the future of our club is looking very rosy imo.
The blue or bust brigade will still be showering insults in his direction no doubt but this club is setting examples to other clubs with our unique treatment of away fans and now the generous charity donations to local organisations.
Long may he be associated with this great club of ours. :ayatollah: :D

I know they believe strongly in their cause but blue just ain't gonna happen, but I respect anyone with a commitment to a cause cos if we were all the same and like minded then the world would be very boring, but the odds are stacked against them unfortunately.

I believe VT is the best thing to happen to this club for many a year, not everyone agrees because of the rebrand but he will lead us to better things imo.

Wondered how long it would take someone to put a negative spin on it, not long at all. One frigging hell of an expensive PR stunt I don't think so get a grip.
