"WAS THIS THE MADDEST EVER DAY AT NINIAN"??

Wed Aug 07, 2013 9:52 am

Cardiff 3 Chelsea 3(1983-84) I was at this game an after witnessing a full day of utter carnage this "MUST" go down as the maddest day ever at ninian.A couple of other contenders were man u(1974)and even more recently millwall(1999)but for me it has to be the Chelsea game. There's a video of the whole game on you-tube and all you can see is fans being stretchered around the pitch(all game)st john's ambulance must have run out of bandages that f*cking day!not glorifying it,just putting it out there for debate.
Worst ever games-
1st-chelsea 83-84
2nd-man u 74
3rd-millwall 99
NINIAN PARK -A LEGENDARY GROUND NEVER TO BE FORGOTTEN!!

Yeah, remember it - weren't we 3 - nil up with about 20 mins to go - Dixon, Spackman goals for Chelsea and a non penalty that was so blatantly a dive but the ref would have been lynched by chelsea fans so he gave the penalty.

If I remember rightly? I'm getting senile these days !!! :old: :old:

I think the ref saved a full scale riot by giving that pen.Chelsea were all set for a pitch invasion and that goal stopped it!

we were 3-0 up with 6 mins to go, remember leaving at 3-2 and chelsea's mob letting my dad and i through as he had a kid with him and we hurtled past some city fans who thought it was 3-1 only for people to come flying past us saying it was now 3-3 !!!

Wrong. It was for handball. It was given when a shot thumped into David Tong's stomach, so much so that after the game he showed the press the ball imprint on the skin.

It was surreal though with Chelsea fans everywhere.

Chelsea 1979 was the worst I ever saw as well as Millwall 1976.

Anyone remember the fat baldy Millwall fan giving it large all game. Then he and the rest of them came across the corner from the Grange end and through the steel doors under the Grandstand after the final whistle. When they got through to the fenced area leading onto the road;it was full of City. The stewards closed the doors behind them'leaving them nowhere to go.The fat bloke was on the news later all bandaged up calling City thugs and animals.Mind.Millwall did get a beating with their backs to those doors.

I was at the one Chelsea game and we cornered their fans in the corner of the bobbank next to the grange end, they took a battering.
Early 80's maybe can't remember the year, one of you will know.

I was at that game not sure what year it was tho.chelsea were jumping down the back to get away and it was a 30ft drop.Steve hickmott's mob that was-they bit off more than they could chew.

Yeah I remember that hot dog van being surrounded whilst mayhem ensued-don't think it was there much after this game.I remember a few west ham getting done in that corner as well.

Ye i remember them diving over the wall, funny as f*ck.
A mate of mine from Llanrumney Jaffa Reid who's sadly no longer with us was in the thick of it.He would have loved it now being in the premier.A life long city fan.

Was there for Chelsea in 84 and Millwall 99 both memorable days. But Chelsea edged it for me as they were everywhere that day, I remember getting escorted from our own grandstand around the side of the pitch and having coins thrown at us and getting spat on from the enclosures and the canton stand!! And wasn't it Roger Gibbins? that the ball hit on the chest as I remember him showing the mark the ball left after the game. Crazy game and felt the ref bottled it big time in that hostile atmosphere

There were quite a few contenders over the years, older fans will remember the offs with Birmingham, Villa & Leicester when the 3 of them tried to take the grange prior kick off & got run out of the ground, Pompey taking the grange in 73, Spurs giving a good account at the end of a cup game in 77, Chelsea were mainly bully boys & played on the numbers game in 84 but were'nt so good when the numbers were more equal in the late 70's but the maddest day i ever witnessed was Man U in 74, it got hyped by the media for weeks prior to the game & it was as bad as predicted, they had 10,000 on the Bob Bank & sadly there were a few from my form in school who were with them on the Bob Bank. United steamrolled over grounds that season but met their match at NP & came unstuck mid season at The Den.

The Man U Game was far more explosive than the Millwall game and Chelsea. 1. Man U . 2 Chelsea . 3 Birmingham. 4 Millwall. :ayatollah:

Was at that Chelsea game and it was bonkers Chelsea came around the back of the Canton and started coming up the slope leading into the Bob Bank where City fans were starting to Exit. There was a stand off then City came charging down out of the Bob Bank and there was mayhem and fighting all down Sloper Road jumped over a garden to avoid a mob and found myself next to a Chelsea fan who was doing the same thing decided to call a truce whilst things calmed down :D

Mad mad day and it was definitely David Tong who was struck by the ball which was given has a penalty by the inept referee

Yehh Chelsea 84 ...Bonkers..!

We decided to wait for Chelsea s main firm outside Central St... As soon as they come out on Mass they made a beeline for the 30 of us who are all young casuals and legged us down past Asteys and around by the old Western Mail buildings..There was a few toe to toes but their numbers overwhelmed

Throughout the day it was carnage ... Yes they had the numbers ..Yes they were in 3 parts of the ground ..they did try and come on the Bob Bank early during the game but got battered..Outside afterwards no way did Chelsea have their own way ..Soul Crew give it back to them for what they give to us..

I think the crowd was only about 8000 but believe me I reckon 7000 on both sides were game lads.. :old:

Have to disagree Lord Ninian, Chelsea smashed Cardiff from the Ninian pub to Doc Graham's. baddest and biggest mob I ever seen in Cardiff apart from Man utd. Me and Dai H always reckoned Chelsea had other cockney lads with them. Most of Cardiff legged it. Mostly old B troop kept the heads in the fire and ultimately we had the shit kicked out of us. One of the brothers got stabbed in the head . I can recall they were chanting War! War! War as they bowled down Tudor road wielding anything they could pick up. Some were all bandaged up from earlier scrapping where it was even. I have to admit it was very fooling naughty. Police were no where and I am surprised there wasn't anybody killed. They used to love coming to Cardiff, Hickmott stated Cardiff always turned up. Would only rate them 4 th in London but when they came to Cardiff they were better than any others by far

I totally agree, Chelsea ran the show that day & City were totally outnumbered & Chelsea had control of three quarters of the ground. The only time i can ever recall a equal numbered mob taking it to City at NP was Spurs at the end of a FA cup game in 77 when they charged the Grange End, strange thing at the time was Millwall were untouchable on their manor but rarely travelled & took a beating in 76 at NP.
