Cardozo has been linked with a number of clubs across Europe this summer and Malky Mackay has admitted he is an admirer of the player.

And now the player has confirmed he does not see himself having a future with Benfica.

He told A Bola: "I thank the fans for always being with me.

"But, after everything that has happened, it will be very hard to find motivation to continue. My head is far away from Benfica."

Cardozo was thought to be close to a move to Fenerbahce earlier in the summer, only for the move to fall through.

But Cardiff will still face intense competitionfor the 30-year-old, with Zenit St Petersburg and Spartak Moscow.

Spartak were rumoured to have made an £15.5m bid for Cardozo, a claim that the Russian club have denied, but it is unclear whether Cardiff would be willing to sanction such a costly move for a player the wrong side of 30, even one who scored 26 goals for Primeira Liga runners-up Benfica last term.

Cardozo would join the already-injured Andreas Cornelius and Steven Caulker, who arrived from Tottenham last week as another big money signing.

As i mentioned in another thread about Cardoza, he wants £50k a week, after taxes. That's why the Fenerbache deal fell through.
