Everton this season

Mon Aug 05, 2013 9:08 pm

Hi, I'm trying to put together the views of fans outside of Everton in the premier league for the upcoming season, so if people could answer any of the following it would be appreciated:

1) What do you make of Roberto Martinez? will he be a success at Everton?

2) What do you make of our transfer business this summer with the additions of Kone, Joel Robles, Alcaraz and Deulofeu joining the squad?

3) Where do you think Everton will finish? why?

4) Which current Everton players would you take in your XI?

5) Was Roberto Martinez the best choice for Everton FC? if not, who was?

I'll post the whole thing once I've written up your responses on the Everton forum I'm doing this for.

1) What do you make of Roberto Martinez? will he be a success at Everton?
I think for the long term he will be. He might have a slow start but I think he will settle in quickly.

2) What do you make of our transfer business this summer with the additions of Kone, Joel Robles, Alcaraz and Deulofeu joining the squad?
Kone was a good bit of business and will pay off by scoring goals for you. I can't comment on the others because I don't know much about them.

3) Where do you think Everton will finish? why?
6th: I think you will do well on your first season with Martinez because your team looks strong and has the capability to compete for a high finish.

4) Which current Everton players would you take in your XI?
Mirallas, Fellanni, Baines, Jagielka.

5) Was Roberto Martinez the best choice for Everton FC? if not, who was?
For the long term, yes.

I think he'll have a slow start but will deliver a top five finish if patience is on his side
2) What do you make of our transfer business this summer with the additions of Kone, Joel Robles, Alcaraz and Deulofeu joining the squad?
Deulofeu is a great addition but I feel Martinez has played the safe card by adding players he knows and is comfortable around when sometimes that doesn't pay off well and they don't blend in with the players already there
3) Where do you think Everton will finish? why?
Top 7, just behind Liverpool
4) Which current Everton players would you take in your XI?
Baines, Jagielka, Fellani, Mirallas, Deulofeu
5) Was Roberto Martinez the best choice for Everton FC? if not, who was?
Well you were going to take Mackay off us at one point, Martinez was an okay choice but I can't help but feel if you wanted Champions League football or at least consistent top five finishes that you should have gone for a different type of approach, that Porto manager?

1) What do you make of Roberto Martinez? will he be a success at Everton?
Yes will bring a whole new style of play and will be a success

2) What do you make of our transfer business this summer with the additions of Kone, Joel Robles, Alcaraz and Deulofeu joining the squad?
Very good if Baines and Fellaini are kept. Also see in for a few others, Cisse from Newcastle be a good signing also

3) Where do you think Everton will finish? why?
7th I think Everton are part of that 5th - 8th group still that we would be aiming on breaking into in years to come

4) Which current Everton players would you take in your XI?
Most to be honest.

5) Was Roberto Martinez the best choice for Everton FC? if not, who was?
Yes for the long term

1) Martinez is a good manager and loyal too. The last thing you lot needed was a 6 month stint under someone who couldn't steady the ship after Moyes

2) The kid from Barca will be a very good signing. Kone will take some pressure off Jelavic. Alcaraz seems like good backup and Robles must have impressed last year. I'd be expecting a bit more before September though.

3) I reckon you'll finish top half. 9th to 6th. Depends on your remaining transfer activity.

4) too many to list to be honest! The two stand outs for me are Baines and Mirallas.

5) Yes

Fancy giving us a quick rundown of us an our chances in the same fashion?

Completely different style of football to what moyes played, my concern would be that his teams set up to play attacking, this may suit your players more than I think but one thing a Martinez team does is ship goals, I personally would prefer the moyes brand as it is more rigid style which I think wins you more points in the long run in this tough league, football may be boring but prem survival is a must for your club, could be a tough season could be a blinder mid table is my prediction

2) What do you make of our transfer business this summer with the additions of Kone, Joel Robles, Alcaraz and Deulofeu joining the squad?

Be honest with you haven't heard of them, kone will score goals at this level and probably more than at Wigan as he has better players and ball deliverers around him, can't say much on the others but would assume they are used to Martinez style play so should fit in and hopefully deliver for you except against us

3) Where do you think Everton will finish? why?

Mid table, like I mentioned above different style of play will ship more goals and to emulate what moyes has done for 8/9 of his ten seasons is a big ask and anywhere near what he achieves in terms of league position I would deem a success for Martinez, of you keep brained and Fellaini I'd say 8th/9th without them and no adequate replacements I'd say 11/12th won't go down far worse teams in the league

4) Which current Everton players would you take in your XI?

Baines, Fellaini, miralles, Coleman, kone, that fella in midfield went to spurs n come back hit what's his feckin name??

5) Was Roberto Martinez the best choice for Everton FC? if not, who was?

I honestly thought you'd be sniffing around malky Mackay as I think this guy will be at the top one day, leaves nothing to chance great manger IMO, I was personally happy when Wigan were relegated as I knew Martinez would definitely jump t the chance to manage you, I also thought you'd go British as you've never had a foreign manager but times change and like I said he plays good football so your fans will be entertained but also frustrated at times as well, he's young and learning and belive u have a good enough defence for his style to maybe work better than it has at his previous clubs interesting choice by kenwright and Time will tell
Good luck for the coming season! :)
