City in talks with Jefferson Montero

Mon Aug 05, 2013 3:45 pm

Many reports on Twitter suggesting we are in for 23 year old Ecuadorian winger. Don't know much about him but no doubt Malky has done his research :malky:

"Diego Herrera (Representante de Montero) conversó con una radio deportiva de la capital, y confirmó que está conversando con el #CardiffCity"

"Diego Herrera (Montero Representative) spoke with a sports radio in the capital, and confirmed it is talking with the # CardiffCity"

West Ham were in for him recently

Perhaps we've stolen in. Fingers crossed

Looks like he's currently in the Mexican premier league having had spells at Vilareal and Betis, never heard of him personally...

Doesn't seem too much of a gamble, depending on price when revealed

There was a £3m release trigger when West Ham were in for him apparently. Probably 4m or thereabouts

Not bad at all, are we in talks with his club or him himself?

By the sounds of Twitter we're talking to Montero himself so I presume contact with club has been made and maybe bid accepted :ayatollah:

Fast, tenacious right winger.

Just what we are looking for, right?

Looks a very exciting signing. There's a video of him tearing Argentina a new arsehole. As you say, for the probable price it'll hardly be a gamble

Looks to have lots of potential (still only 23 - so a typical Malky signing). A tricky, pacy, skilfull winger needs to improve on his end product though. May be another Malky gem. I bow to our managers knowledge of football players

Does he feature much for Ecuador and where are they in the World Rankings? (Just wondering because of work permit/international clearance issues etc)

1) The 23-year-old comes in at five feet and seven inches tall and has already played for eight teams since he started his senior career at the age of 17-years-old.

2) His most prolific spell came between 2008 and 2009 with Independiente Jose Teran where he scored 19 goals in 37 appearances.

3) That spell led to a high profile five-year deal with Villarreal where he appeared in La Liga and the Champions League for the club.

4) He played for four different teams during his brief spell in La Liga which includes appearances for the Villarreal B team, the Villarreal senior team and loan spells with Levante and Real Betis.

5) His only international appearances have come at senior level. He has 27 caps for Ecuador so far in his career and has scored six goals.

£3.5m buy-out clause, according to Sky Sports. Swansea, West Brom, West Ham and Hull City all linked last month.
