Crystal Palace are the surprise leaders in the race to sign former England striker Darren Bent.

The 29-year-old has been the subject of interest from Fulham and Newcastle United in recent weeks, with Aston Villa rejecting three bids from the Cottagers for his services.

But Premier League newcomers Palace have entered the race in recent days and the signals from Bent's camp are that the Tooting-born striker would consider a return to South London.

The Eagles are also keeping an eye on Scott Parker's situation at Tottenham, with indications that the England midfielder would become available if Spurs can sign another midfielder.

West Ham United chairman David Sullivan recently declared that he "would love Scott back" but that the Hammers needed to focus resources on signing a forward.
