HEREFORD 0 - 2 CITY

Sat Aug 03, 2013 9:23 pm

Decided to go to Hereford today instead of watching the Chievo game hoping to see any players that we might have on trial. Only one i saw was Robert Calvert at centre back paired with Kevin McNaughton, Connolly played right back and did well. City scored after 19mins,the ball given to a stronger looking Kadeem Harris who cut in from the left and hit a sweet right footer across Rhys Evans in the Hereford goal.the ball nestling in the far corner of the net. City scored again after 34 mins,a good move resulting in Maynard hitting a left foot drive from just inside the box. Velikonja had a chance soon after when the ball rebounded off a defender into his path. He ran on his own towards their area with only their keeper to beat, unfortunately as he tried to side foot the ball home it appeared to take a bobble and the chance was lost with ball flying high and wide. Hereford put a couple of dangerous crosses in from their right hand side but couldn't get anyone on the end of them.

Half time : Hereford 0 - 2 City

Not a lot to say about the second half really apart from Conway probing and putting in dangerous crosses. In fact Conway had an excellent game and was my MOM. Calvert looked good as well and has more pace than some of our current defenders. Harris looked bigger and stronger and appears to be more confident now.
Team : Lewis,Connolly,Lappin,McNaughton,Calvert,Conway,Kiss,O'Sullivan,Harris,Maynard,Velikonja.
All in all a good workout for quite a strong City side, far stronger than i expected.
Hereford looked sluggish at the back lacking pace at left back and central defence. They played big Ian Rankin up front ( i think he played for Barnsley against us years ago) who didn't really get a chance.
Thought i'd post this just incase anyone was wondering how we got on there today.

Good to know, thanks for posting. I wonder if Harris will be used much this season? Seems like he could do a job off the bench if he keeps this up. :ayatollah:

Good report, thanks Blue Steel! What did you think of Calvert? Interesting that you say he's pacey, is he a commanding presence as well?

Calvert looked very comfortable and gave the impression that he was the senior player and not McNaughton along side him. You could certainly see that he is a good footballer, it remains to be seen whether he will be good enough to earn a contract for the level we have now achieved. The biggest surprise i had was the appearance of Harris, i didn't recognise him, looks far stronger.

Calvert seems to be getting good reviews, for his age surely it wouldn't hurt taking him for a season and see how he does? Harris seems to be coming on leaps and bounds, do you think he is ready to push for a first team place, or is he still a little raw and could do with being loaned out for more experience?

Don't think Harris is ready yet for the Premiership, from what i saw yesterday would definitely deserve a start in the Championship, easily went past players with his dribbling and pace.

Hopefully if we bring another winger in Harris could be sent out on loan to a Championship/League 1 club to develop further. Thanks for the report once again!
