Whittingham Today

Sat Aug 03, 2013 5:04 pm

Whitts seemed to have a new lease of life today in comparison to the way he was playing last season.

City did not do a great deal in the first half but Whitts always wanted to be on the ball and he worked hard to go and look for it all the time. At the start of the second half we definitely stepped up the tempo and started to crete the chances. Again Whitts was well involved. He also had his fair attempts at goal and hit a cracker against the post. He has the quality to do a decent job this season.

Needless to say that Kimbo was simply quality today. His running and ball control are going to shine in the Premiership. Noone also stepped up a notch second half. The opposition had 3 decent chances but overall the defence looked quite solid.Onwards and upwards :malky:

Thought he started too deep, but for 20 minutes after half time it looked like the Whitts of old.

whitts looks alot slimmer than last year and he did not shit out on challenges... had to laugh at the scream the chievo player made when whitts 50/50 challenged him which led to kimbos goal

Thought he played shit looks scared to shoot from putside the box when he was at his best he always did it. Kimbo was our best player again today. :ayatollah:

Totally disagree, First half he was reluctant to shoot but he still had a great deal of the ball and was controlling the middle of the park. Second half he had loads of shots at goal from outside the box and he hit the woodwork from 25 years ! perhaps we were watching different games ! He was every where looking for the ball but tired in the last 15 mins. Other than that he played a lot lot better than last season.

Just don't think he played well at all scared to shoot and too slow no desire to chase 50/50 balls Kimbo and cowie did well in the middle

No, I didn't attend todays game as I had other plans but I did attend Forest Green, Barry & Port Talbot if that makes any difference to you?

Whitts obviously didn't play shit if apart from Kim & John, had one of the best reviews from the game...

I thought he was shit in the 2nd half of last season though.

Are you going to West Ham away?

Re: Whittingham Today

Just because Whitts didn't shoot when he had one opportunity in the first half, doesn't make his performance shit!

He was unlucky not to score in the second half, when he kept their goalie really busy!

He also did plenty of chasing back and after Kim, he was arguably our next best player!

Nope I'm on holiday. Did go to forest green and Cheltenham though and have a ST and will attend at least 5or6 away games this season starting with Fulham. :thumbright:

Whittingham was brilliant second half. Grew in confidence.

I will be honest the one chance he had to shoot in the first half really was a downer as he seemed like the confidence was being taken out of him more and more.

Cracking second half though.

I disagree he once again looked lazy. Don't think he'll start many games for us. If we play 4-5-1 then Kimbo mutch and Gunner shoul play and that is assuming we don't get capoue or another cm. :ayatollah:

Glad to hear it... I wasn't having a go at you btw regarding you thinking Whittingham played shit today. I was purely just saying that Whitts had a lot of good reviews so therefor he must of had a decent to good game.

There isn't any point in us being hostile against each other mate... we are both city fans and both season ticket holders. Neither of us is better than the other

You're entitled to disagree although you're wrong :D , but to label his performance as shit is absurd!

All I can say is, if you believe his performance to have been so poor, you must be, or was a hell of a player in your day!

Remember Kim-Bo's 1st few games... He has plenty of chances to shoot but his confidence wasn't very good and ended up passing and only had like 1 shot in 3-4 games... The first time he shot, he ended up scoring the 4th goal against Blackburn

Whitts has had a lot of stick from last season because after Christmas, he was shocking but a few games of him playing good will get the fans back chanting "he'll do what he wants" and he will be back to himself again :malky:

Spot on. He also did go in for 50/50 challenges and one of them resulted in one of their players going down just before Kimbo's goal. Whitts had a good game.

Whittingham was like this the first part of last season. He fell badly off form the second half of the season, especially when teams man marked him and gave him little time on the ball.

With less man marking I expect him to cause a few surprises in the Premier League this season!

I did wonder today how good Whitts would be if he was a little smaller. With a bit more pace and agility I think he could have gone even higher in the game!

I think he is excellent the way he is tbh, he has obviously had to learn his trade slightly differently giving his height and build but I think he works the midfield so well.

Out of everyone on the pitch though, he is the least capable of being captain... He was made captain in 2 games last season.. we went down a goal and he hung his head in shame instead of getting the players pumped up to fight back. That is what qualities Hudson & Bellamy have. They are immense!

Whitts was superb today. He played well at Brentford too. Looks like Malky might have found a way to play Whitts and Kimbo in the same team. Not just that, but he was in front of me driving out of the car park after the game. Acknowledged me when I let him join the queue, and signed for a young lad who approached him at the lights. Class act, a Cardiff City legend :ayatollah:

No, I totally agree. Don't get me wrong, Whitts is a superb player but I was just musing over whether, with his technique, with a bit of extra pace and agility he could be playing at an even higher level :)

I am one of those who likes him where he is at and sees the sense in Malky playing him in this 'Quarterback' role :ayatollah:

I also agree that there are better captains in the side but his ability and longetivity with us does make him a big candidate when the usual suspects such as Bellamy & Hudson are not on the pitch!

Simples

Whits always been our best player, but we have always placed to much pressure on him, until malky finally gave kimbo and Mutch a break.

He will again start strong, but this season will get a deserved rest, due to strength in depth (hopefully) and therefore will prove to be the diamond he really is right through the season :ayatollah:

was at the game yesterday and thought whitts gave a good showing he seemed to be used by malky to be the playmaker ,distributor and i thought he done this role well given that he will get that extra yard of space in the premiership i really do think he could have a great season in front of him.

If this lad signs this week we have our quarterback and it wont be Whitts.

Capoue sitting in front of the defence. Mutch box to box. KimBo in a free role
behind the striker. There's a lot of power there. Nobody will bully our midfield
and All three are great passers of the ball.

Good to hear about Whitts, when he plays his proper game, he is quality, when he lays back he goes completely missing.

Perhaps Wittingham knowing he is not going to be an automatic choice this season has concentrated his mind somewhat

Jesus! Whittingham had a great game yesterday as per what I saw live, his performance ratings & everybody on this thread bar one lol.
Looked fresher, quicker & hungry for the ball. He obviously tired last season after a great start & wasn't taken out to be rested when he should have.
