A forum for all things Cardiff City

Cardiff City fans have been warned to stock up on strong coffee and ask their bosses for a late start on September 3 as Malky Mackay plans another later transfer window raid.
After last day deals to wrap up Craig Noone and Nicky Maynard last season, the Bluebirds boss today told fans to expect the same when the window slams shut at 11pm on Monday, September 2, admitting: “There are still targets out there and still people I want to bring into the club but what's best for us isn't always what's best for everyone.”
Rewind a year and after a string of bids for flying Brighton winger Craig Noone were rejected, the Seasiders finally succumbed on the final day of business when Mackay went in with an offer in excess of £1.1m.
Then sensationally, Mackay plucked West Ham striker Nicky Maynard for £2.75m in the moments before Big Ben signalled the cease of summer spending.
This time around, with a bid already in for the sought after Toulouse man Etienne Capoue and rumoured swoops for Peter Odemwingie and Hector Moreno, as well as a mystery winger in the offing, another late night could be on the cards for Bluebirds fans.
Mackay said: “As we saw last year, we brought in five or six players near the end of the window.
“It's often not down to us, it's really just about when they fall.”
Having broken two club transfer records already this summer in bringing in internationals Andreas Cornelius and Steven Caulker, as well as John Brayford and Simon Moore from the lower leagues, Mackay and his recruitment team have been very busy since winning promotion to the Premier League.
But failed attempts to bring in Victor Wanyama from Celtic and Tom Ince from Blackpool have left him short of the quality he would ideally like in the centre of midfield and out wide.
If France international Capoue decides to join the Bluebirds, despite several continental clubs showing an interest, Mackay would dive feet first into the race to sign a star winger before the big kick off, as well as some squad players with Premier League experience.
“We have various irons in the fire at the moment and I have plenty of targets,” revealed the Bluebirds boss.
“But transfers being completed don't always come down to when it suits us.
“We will continue to be diligent and go about our work in the way that we've always gone about it in terms of getting players in.”
