Just go to anyone of them really. You can normally get a free first consultation and they'll tell you whether you have a case or not.

There used to be an ad on the tv not so long ago for a firm which specialises in medical negligence cases. Can't remember their name now but if you search the web I'm sure you will find them or someone similar.

I can tell you who to avoid. Robertsons solicitors in Cardiff. Opposite what was Oceana by the theatre. I went to them with what I thought was a case that couldn't be lost.........and lost.

At one stage the barrister and solicitor in court was asking me to ask questions to the defence. To be honest I could have done a better fecking job.

They were recommended to be by a mate who went to them for a first offence - a scuffle in a Cardiff nightclub...he got 18 months

The Law Society keeps a list of the only lawyers independently certified as being specialists in clinical negligence work. It is not the same as road or other accidents.

Hugh James (www.hughjames.com) has more independently certified specialists than any other firm in Wales. It has also been retained by the Community Health Councils, the patients' advocates service.

Whoever you instruct make sure they show you how many of your type of case they have actually done. When I used to do clin neg I did missed diagnoses; never did a birth trauma case at all yet I could have told everyone I was a clin neg lawyer.

Good luck
