Sorry, I don't get the love in with Pompey, not looking for a row, but a lot of ours slate swansea for the admins, but love the pompey thing. They are now improving Fratton and have signed quite a few players, where is the money coming from?

Its because they play in blue! Don't forget some of our supporters wish we were where they are now!
Because they kept their colours.

we have beaten that attendence for the 3rd tier of the football league on at least 2 occassions away to QPR 48000 and the league record of 51626 against Bristol City at home in our promotion year 1946- 47

But not since inception of present structure! The Sheffield derby holds it. :thumbright:

Although City were in the 'bottom' division, ie 3rd South, at the time, the 4th division [the now 2nd] is held by Crystal Palace :

Records[edit]

The record attendance in Selhurst Park was achieved in 1979, when 51,801 people saw Crystal Palace defeat Burnley F.C. 2–0 to clinch the Football League Second Division championship. The ground also holds the record for Division Four (now League Two in the English football pyramid) attendance, when Crystal Palace played local rivals Millwall F.C. in 1961 after 37,774 people turned out.

Although I wouldn't want to ever go back to the dungeon league, this season it is a fascinating league. Portsmouth are the obvious stand out team but L2 also has Newport Co, Bristol Rovers, Cheltenham, Plymouth and Exeter.

It is only missing Bristol C (next season hopefully) and Swansea (by the end of the decade  ) and you would have the ultimate super league for minor teams in Wales and the West.

If I remember rightly something similar happened around 1986? but in the old 3rd Division.

Very selective comment barry! As I put forward a reason for our fans love in for pompey, why didn't you do so instead of making silly gesture? We all want blue so pointless going :sleepy2: :sleepy2: :sleepy2: don't you think? :thumbright:
Anyway off for lunch date so have nice day.

In the present structure neither Sheffield clubs have been in league 2 and Wednesday have never been in the 4th tier (4th Division) of English football in the old structure. United have only one season in the 4th tier in the old structure, season 1981/82 and they were promoted as champions. The Sheffield derby did hold the record for the old third division 49,309 at Hillsborough on Boxing Day 26/12/1979 when Wednesday won 4-0 and since that day in Sheffield it has been known as the "Boxing Day Massacre". Not sure if it still does.

So our record was not beaten by sheffield then so how could they hold the record in 1979.
