HOW BIG CAN WE REALLY GET TO BE ?

For most of us ,this is the biggest season of our lives, even bigger than last time we were at the top level of british football.

I say bigger this time , as this could really be the Making of Cardiff City should we take full advantage of this opportunity to consolidate our self in the top level of world football.

I say world football because it is well known that the british premiership is the tops of world football, if not why is it that most top footballers want so much to play here.

We all ask & want to know ,how big our club is! or can be. Well as a follower & supporter of the Bluebirds for well over 50 years,and been witness to more games than I can remember ,good & bad.

I can remember when you couldn't even raise your hand to drink a cup of tea in the Grange end ( that is if you were lucky enough to get into the que to get one ) because you were so near the person next to you.

Most of the time the guy standing next to you would say to you , Ok go on Mate , which would mean he would lean to the right or to the left, so you could rise your hand to take a drink.

I believe within 5 years of staying around Mid table , we will be pulling in 45,000 + easy.
Our catchment area is vast, it goes up and over the Seven bridge & my cousin who lives in Llanwrst in North Wales tells me ,there are small private buses that come down for most games now, So I have no reason to think that would stop ,in fact I could only see it grow.

Its hard Im sure for some of you to believe that Cardiff could be as big or bigger than say Everton or Spurs ,but I believe that within 5/6 years Mid table and playing good football this Bluebird will be seen flying high over them white cliffs Of Dover & well on there way to Asia . I reckon realistically, we could be about as big as Aston Villa were a couple of years ago. Ie comfortably top half, still someway off the CL regulars. This is of course how big we could be, we could also easily end up a mid table Championship side for the next decade depending on how these next two seasons go.

Considering Swansea's recent success, I reckon they could do similar. Two Welsh top half/mid table prem clubs could do wonders for the national game. Now, I enjoy seeing the Swans lose as much as the next City fan, but I'd rather see us both do well then see them see them back in the second tier. Of course, if we go down, I'll be much too bitter to keep that attitude up...

We all saw what happened at Chelsea not so long back. A so called fashionable club who were skint and at that time arguably the third biggest club in London behind Arsenal and Spurs. Although Arsenal remain the biggest in terms of ground capacity, Chelsea could easily match numbers in a new ground and are probably the biggest club in London nowadays. That has been down to one man "Abromovich"! We have our Abromovich in Vincent Tan and has already been proved - it's paid dividends on and off the field. Even before tan, We were by far the biggest club in Wales in terms of support, although we have to admit for the time being that Swansea are better known internationally - and that is only down to their recent exposure in the PL - but that'll change pretty sharpish should we stay up.
I believe the success of both welsh clubs have helped with the young ones growing up, to follow football instead of rugby and that means the support will only get larger as the years go on. Ten years in the PL and we could fill a stadium of 50,000. Success breeds success, both on the pitch and off it with new support ,etc.
We can and should be the equivalent of a Celtic or Rangers in the years to come

Who knows, but there is no real evidence that stagnation (which is a bad word, but basically meaning mid-lower in the premiership) increases crowds unfortunately. Promotion does, battling for Europe does, but a lot of the middle-ranking clubs, tend not to massively increase crowds by doing moderately well in the premier league.

I think the club has a lot of potential, but if we were an established premier league club (ie, staying up, but not winning cups etc) then I can't see us getting crowds of 35,000+ really.

One thing i really do hope to see ,is young kids walking around in Cardiff with Bluebirds shirts on rather than the bloody Gunners ,Lpool , ManU & Newcastle shirts on.

I do understand that most of the kids wear them as there Parents has inflicted this upon them.But I look forward now to kids seeing there home town playing and I hope to beat them now and again,there by slowly winning these kids over .

All the kids now growing up, in or around Cardiff , are our future, and of course the future of our Club.

It's all about taking things step by step but with the potential of our fan base and catchment area who's to say we couldn't be in that position in the future.
