Cardiff City are set to smash their club record transfer fee once again today as they look to sign Tottenham CAULKER

The Bluebirds are close to agreeing a deal with the 21-year-old, with Caulker in Cardiff undergoing a medical.

The England international represents a huge coup for the Premier League new boys as manager Malky Mackay prepares to make his fourth signing of the summer.

The exact value of the deal is not known at this stage but we understand it will usurp the £8.5m paid for Andreas Cornelius.

Caulker’s Premier League pedigree is already well known in South Wales after his season-long stay with Swansea City two years ago that enhanced his reputation as one of the brightest defensive prospects around.

His performances at the Liberty during Swansea’s maiden year in the Premier earned him a call-up to the Team GB squad for the London Olympics as well as seeing him force his way into first-team plans at White Hart Lane.

Caulker made 26 appearances during his time at Swansea, going on to win a first senior England cap the following season while back at Spurs.

But he has not figured regularly in North London and Mackay has moved to get his man.

Swansea attempted to secure the return of Caulker last summer, but were unable to make any headway in a deal while Brendan Rodgers was also linked with a move to take him with him to Liverpool.

The former Yeovil and Bristol City loanee played in both of Spurs’ recent friendly games with Sunderland and South China in Hong Kong and the recent injury suffered by Jan Vertonghen appeared to suggest he could be stying at White Hart Lane.

Cardiff have also been linked with a move for Espanyol’s Mexico international centre-back Hector Moreno while are still trying to secure a deal for France midfielder Etienne Capoue.

Caulker Having His Bits Checked
Posted by: Harry Hotspur on July 31, 2013 in Tottenham Hotspur, Tottenham Hotspur transfer rumours =

Unsubstantiated reports coming through the HH caravan letterbox this lunchtime that we’ve sold Steven Caulker to Cardiff City. 21 year old Caulker played 28 times for Spurs last season and scored twice.
Caulker is not training with Spurs today, and it is understood he is instead having a medical ahead of a move thought to be worth as much as £9m. The move isn’t a total shock but he’s a player I believe has more to offer and being stuck behind perhaps at least two others at The Lane isn’t the way for him to demonstrate this. Good money for Levy & Co., a decent player who will make a difference to Cardiff City.
Caulker’s chances of stepping up the pecking order suffered a major blow after Jan Vertonghen wasn’t actually pronounced dead after the injury he sustained in Hong Kong at the weekend.

Caulker undergoing Cardiff medical – Spurs fans take to Twitter -

Momentum is gathering regarding speculation that Steven Caulker is set to join Cardiff City in a record £9million deal.

The Spurs defender who is still just 21 has already represented England at senior level and could be heading for the White Hart Lane exit. This would also tie in with the news that Spurs are closing in on a deal for Steau Bucharest central defender Vlad Chiriches.

Wales Online are reporting that Caulker is already in Cardiff undergoing a medical with the Premier League newcomers and are close to completing a deal. With Jan Vertonghen picking up an injury during the Barclays Asia Trophy, William Gallas’ release and doubts over Younes Kaboul’s fitness it’s a risky decision by Spurs and AVB to part with the promising Caulker.

Some Spurs fans have not taken too well to the news that Caulker could be set for an N17 exit with a move down the M4 with a return to the Principality after an earlier loan spell with Swansea City.
