' Cardiff City must play the waiting game '

Cardiff City must wait to see whether French target Etienne Capoue accepts a club record £9.6m move to South Wales.

Ligue 1 club Toulouse have accepted the audacious offer from the Bluebirds for the six-times capped France midfielder.

But reports in France say the 25-year-old is waiting to see if Spanish giants Athletico Madrid follow up their initial interest in him.

“It’s pretty delicate right now,” said Cardiff manager Malky Mackay.

“We’re in constant dialogue and negotiations but it’s something that’s on-going.”

The player’s advisers have been extremely professional.”

The agreed £9.6m deal for Capoue, who scored for Toulouse in a pre -season friendly on Saturday, would eclipse the club record £8.5m fee City paid for Denmark forward Andreas Cornelius earlier this month.

And it would take Cardiff’s summer captures to four with Derby defender John Brayford having joined for £1.3m plus add-ons and keeper Simon Moore completing his £150,000 move from Brentford today.

Cardiff are also keen on Espanyol’s Mexico defender Hector Moreno but Mackay would only say on that one: “I do not discuss players who are contracted to other clubs.”

However, he was willing to talk about Capoue because Toulouse have agreed a fee with Cardiff.

“When you are in for good players there will always be competition,” he said. “If we were the only club in for a player perhaps it would be a worry.

“Our recruitment drive goes on. We have four or five weeks before the transfer window closes and we will be looking for as many good players as we can within the finances we have.

“At one stage last summer we brought in five in one week during late August. We will keep working and we have players at various stages.”

Etienne Capoue tracks Italy's Riccardo Montolivo on France duty
Newspapers in France yesterday linked Cardiff with a free transfer swoop for former Lyon full-back Anthony Réveillère.

The 33-year-old right-back, who has played 19 times for France and was part of his country’s 2010 World Cup squad in South Africa, was released at the end of last season.

Mackay made no secret he wants to strengthen his defence but the addition of Brayford makes any move for Réveillère improbable.

This is beginning to look like the French version of the Tom Ince affair.........i hope with a better outcome

Fees between clubs Agreed. We assume terms have been offered to the player and his representetives.

So how long should Cardiff wait?

He doesn't want to come move on. If it was one of the glory clubs he would be here

Seems like the tom ince saga all over again.

We've offered our terms, he should be over here if he wants to join.

Can't see this happening :(

His Agent must know that athletic have limited finances. So what's he telling him to make him delay?

How is this in any way like the Ince saga?

Ince think's he's better than he is and was holding out for a move to Everton or Liverpool, which wouldn't happen. Capoue on the other hand is actually good enough for a very big European side. He has the stats and the length of career to back him up. So what if he waits a few days to see if an offer from a big club comes in? If I was him I'd do the same. If an offer doesn't come in, or doesn't match our offer, then he will join us. It's as simple as that.

We want players who would be proud to play for us.It's hard work trying to get players who just stall hoping for a bigger club to come in for them.Never know though,he might just prove us wrong!!

as long as he gives 100% when hes on the pitch i dont really care.

Didnt Kim Bo basically say he was using us as a stepping stone when he signed? as long as it doesnt effect performances on the pitch we will be fine.

Why is it every deal that everyone thinks it'll end up like Ince?

If Capoue turns us down then so what, he's a great talent and we tried for him, he will go to a leading European side. I have high hopes for this deal, no one knows what's happened in the deal except for CCFC, Malky, Toulouse, Coupe and his advisors.

Wait and see how it pans out

We need to be looking at more players while this one goes on so if he was to turn us down, we have another option

Comparing to Ince situation? You lot are brain dead.

Bid accepted on Thursday/Friday? 3 days ago?

No-one knows if we are actually waiting. It's just a load of s**t to stir the transfer up.

People are believing some wankers who don't want to see their beloved Capoue go and would hate him to come to a recently promoted side. All we know is that we've had a bid accepted, Malky has said that, the rest will all come into place, if he signs then brilliant we've got a great player on our hands, if not we move on to other targets. Just because he hasn't signed immediately doesn't mean he isn't signing does it? Transfers take time

Why pull out just because the deal isn't done yet? It would be ideal to have all our signings before West Ham but some can't, give it time, the bid only got accepted Thursday/Friday

When they stall like this its coz they are waiting for better. Tom Ince all over does not look good

Re: ' Cardiff City must play the waiting game '

Mon Jul 29, 2013 7:31 pm

I not care either - he can take as long as he wants to decide, if it was you, you'd want to go to the best team, with the best chance of success before sticking yourself down for a relegation dog fight.Surely?

If he decides to sign then great, but malky does state there are various players at various stages of negotiations.

Well of course is. Who the f**k are Cardiff City? We are nothing to him. Yet. However,
If he says yes, Moreno will follow and there will be a little Daddys boy building sandcastles up on Blackpool
beach who is going to wonder whos side his father is on :sign6:

Relegation dogfight?? Wheres the belief, the faith and, never say die attitude?? The players never shirked them last season! I believe we will be ok with a few quality signings moreno would be one!we would all like the squad to be complete but it was never likely as malky will only get better than we have.if capoue signs brilliant if not i am not overly concerned.

Mark my words - we will not be in a relegation dogfight. Capoue or no Capoue, we will sign the
quality that will see us finish mid table
