Cypriot businessman Mehmet Dalman, who helped the Glazers take over Manchester United, is the new chairman of Cardiff City,



writes Terry Phillips.


The former Crystal Palace trialist takes over from Dato Chan Tien Ghee, who stepped down from his position as chairman last March.Malaysian chief executive Simon Lim was appointed acting chairman, but he hands over the reins to Cardiff director Dalman, who has a banking background.Dalman helped the Glazers during their negotiations to take over Old Trafford giants United.

Dalman is also a fan of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers American Football team.From Paphos, Cyprus, he had a trial with Palace in his younger days, but chose education ahead of football.He is an investment banker and powerful businessman with interests worldwide.Dalman studied at the London School of Economics, speaks English and Japanese and has a working knowledge of Greek and Arabic.


His appointment as chairman follows Cardiff’s agreement over the £24m Langston loan notes,Malaysian investor Vincent Tan striking a deal with former owner Sam Hammam.An initial sum of £15m plus £7m in extras, thought to be linked to stadium naming rights and Premier League status, was agreed to settle the Langston debt.Hammam’s close associate, Michael Filliou, has been appointed to the board of directors

I think Terry got his info from Sam and I was merely making the point that some of the info from Sam he's printed in the past hasn't always been accurate. So I do wonder if he terms of the agreement are slightly different than is in the article i.e. the naming rights? Surely I'm free to post my opinion on whatever forum I want as long at it not abusive?

I honestly don't know where Terry got his info from, I do know he talks to a Director on a daily basics,
Also I know this that Terry and Sam have only spoke once in the last 7 yrs and that was to do Sams interview last week.

But to me it's more interesting about the amount the deal is and our new chairman surely?

The funny thing is Stavross, there are a few people who are close to Sam and this info never came out despite months of negotiations because Sam never told us the details of the deal.

So who did know about the deal?

Langston, Tan and both their representatives.

Of course there was a board meeting last week and the directors would have been told of the details of the deal.

Terry Phillips met Sam in the middle of last week and Terry told Sam what he had been told of the deal, so as you say 'I wonder who told Terry about the details'.

There are a few Directors that you all know I know well.

The other day in an interview VT definitely mentioned it was possible to make money out of a football club and quoted the 'Glaziers' as an example.
