62.000 blues packed the Schalke Arena today, for RAÚL's Testimonial game... Electric atmosphere as the man played the first half in the colours of his current club from Quatar, but changed into Schalke's strip for his last 45 mins in the 2nd half...

Complete capacity crowd, gave Raúl standing ovations as he walked onto the pitch and again at his lap of honour at the end (with his 4 sons). To me a absolute highlight, that a player of his reputation ever played for Schalke. Raúl loved it too, he said the club ad its fans have a special place in his heart. He climbed up into Schalke's home terracing after the game to shake hands and celebrate with the Schalke faithful...

at first look, nothing...
at second, some simularities... working class club with a miner's background and still with strong links to the mineworker's community. fans known to be passionate, colours blue & white... etc

BUT, this post has really not much to do with the City

Whatever the reasons for the testimonial, the guy is a legend in the game.

Schalke offered him a testimonial game, when he left the club and the fans demanded it too...

he loved his time there, there was a special bond between him and the supporters and I am certain we havent seen the last of Raul and his family at Schalke...
He stated that the warm welcome, the passion, the love the fans gave him, overwhealmed him, as he never experienced that in Spain before...

Was also great, after the celebrations his 4 boys were still on the pitch while their dad was talking to people, doing interviews etc... they got a football and started passing to each other and just play (like boys do), wearing the new white/navy away kit. They did that in front of the Northstad (home terrace)...and the fans cheered when the boys scored. The boys then celebrated in style, like pros do when they score, you could tell they loved that moment. This went on for minutes, then the Schalke mascot *Erwin* went in the net, and Raul's boys did a penalty shootout... was lovely to see

If you open your eyes you'll see dozens of threads on this forum that are not Cardiff City related. As a football fan at least this one is interesting.
