Can Cardiff complete the transfer of the summer?
Etienne Capoue would represent a major coup if Cardiff can win the race for the coveted Frenchman

Published by Connor Armstrong 25/07/2013

Cardiff are leading the race to sign Capoue
Etienne Capoue could be set for a Premier League switch, after ambitious Premier League newboys Cardiff City agreed a fee with Toulouse for the Frenchman's services.

News broke late on Thursday evening that the Bluebirds had finalised an agreement with Toulouse to the tune of £8.6m, allowing them to open talks with the highly-rated midfielder.

The 25-year-old French midfielder has established a strong reputation as a kingpin in the Toulouse set-up, with numerous top European clubs circling in anticipation of a move for the international midfielder.

Manchester United, Arsenal, PSG and Monaco have all been linked with the midfield star in the past.

Operating from an anchorman role, Capoue is famed for his accurate and positive passing.

He regularly uses his strength and midfield presence to wrestle the ball from the opposition before recycling possession to a team-mate.

He made the second most forward passes of any player in Ligue 1 last season, with an average of 64 per game. Capoue's all-action demeanour lends itself well to both the defensive and attacking phases of play.

It's certainly no coincidence that in the five years he's spent with the club, they have consistently had one of the best defensive records in the league.

His defensive awareness and ability to read play has made him a masterful anchorman who is capable of dictating the play from deep.

Representing Toulouse on 194 occasions, adding 17 goals to his name, Capoue has also forced his way into the international set-up in recent months, making his senior debut for France against Uruguay in a friendly in August 2012.

Shortly after, in September 2012, he scored against Belarus in a World Cup qualifier to score his first international goal.

Capoue's capture, should it be completed, should be regarded as a major coup for Cardiff City, who would be landing what you might call an unsung hero when it comes to deep-lying playmakers with the ability to assert their presence in the centre of the park.

His versatility also benefits his game, with his ability to comfortably slot into the back four as a centre half.

His aerial presence should also not be underestimated. Only the Sane brothers won more headers than the Toulouse man, whose record for winning aerial duels stands at 74.7%.

Another remarkable statistic that demonstrates the dominance he asserts in midfield is that less than 0.5 dribbles a game successfully pass him.

Capoue is the all-action midfield dynamo.

Should Cardiff land him, they may well have made the signing of the summer.

Just seen this on Twitter: @GFN_France: Confirmed: Etienne Capoue has refused to partake in contract discussions with Cardiff. No interest. #TFC #Cardiff

Hope it's just a rumour as he would be one hell of a signing

A Bidding war is about to start ( IMO ) -

Arsenal appear to be on the verge of missing out on signing Toulouse powerhouse Etienne Capoue with the French club having accepted an £8.6 million offer from newly promoted Welsh club Cardiff City.

Toulouse chairman Olivier Sadran has given Arsenal fans cause for optimism, having told L’Equipe, “Now the clubs interested in Etienne have to know we will not accept any offer inferior to the one from Cardiff,” thereby suggesting that the club is still open to receiving more offers for the defensive midfielder.

Arsenal though will need to move fast if they are serious about adding Capoue to their squad before he can sit down with Cardiff for contract talks. The 25 year old French international is believed to not be in any particular hurry to make the move though as he thinks he can land himself a bigger club and doesn’t particularly want to be involved in a relegation dog fight.

Capoue is a very talented player and it is a tad surprising that there are no other suitors yet for his signature, but there is still over a month to go before the transfer window closes and a lot can happen in that time.

Capoue!

Rumours have now increased and from what I have been told by a reliable source is that Capoue will become a Cardiff player very soon, don't shoot the messenger but its what I've been told. Things are looking up for us. :ayatollah:
