Capoue latest
Cardiff City are reported to have had a £10m bid accepted by Toulouse for French international midfielder Étienne Capoue.
French sports newspaper L'Equipe has reported that the player is now mulling over a move to the Cardiff City Stadium after his club accepted a bid.
The 25-year-old, who has won five caps for France, was first linked with the Bluebirds on Monday, just weeks after he appeared to be on the verge of a move to big-spending Monaco.
He has also been the subject of interest from Everton and Arsenal, so his signing would be a major coup for Malky Mackay.
The deal would take Cardiff's spending this summer to £18.5m, as they prepare for life in the Premier League.
So far, Danish striker Andreas Cornelius - who made his debut in last night's 4-3 win over Forest Green Rovers - has been the club's only signing.
Capoue is a defensive midfielder, who can also operate in defence, and made his senior debut for France in a friendly against Uruguay in August 2012.

A report from French site Mercato claims Toulouse midfielder Etienne Capoue has turned down a move to Cardiff City and is now in advanced discussions with Athletico Madrid.
It's said that City were willing to match the €10m fee wanted for Capoue.
Google translates the report terribly, so I'll only link it.

Etienne Capua (25), in advanced discussions with Atletico Madrid, recently refused to join the club of Cardiff. Welsh proposed € 10 million Téfécé.
In advanced for several weeks with Atletico Madrid discussions , Etienne Capua (25 years) always wants all join the Spanish club. If the first offer Mattress (€ 7.5 million) has not convinced the president Olivier Sadran Toulouse, a second should follow quickly after a recently convened meeting of the leaders on both sides to the table . The Téfécé, which granted a release to his midfield (174 games in L1 in the Toulouse colors) seems ready to release the player in case of offer of € 10 million.
Provided that the challenge pleases Capua. A few days ago, the native of Niort and, according to our information, refused to join the Cardiff FC promoted to the Premier League next season but will not compete in the European Cup. The Welsh club had yet proposed 10 million requested by Sadran. The new offer coming from Atletico Madrid to Capua, on the verge of signing for Monaco earlier this month, could be very close to Cardiff and make a difference to the Toulouse president.
Still Toulouse yet, Etienne Capua came late in the game against Montpellier in a friendly on Tuesday evening on the lawn of Béziers (0-0). But nothing says it will still Toulouse in the next game preparation players Alain Casanova, next Saturday against Rodez (CFA).

Another one bites the dust

If true, I think we need to lower our expectations of what targets we are after for the first yr like Norwich and soton did.. There's good players available who we could probably have more success with tempting to join us, ie Dorrans, Parker, Maloney and maybe season loan deals also for say Danny rose or Andre wisdom etc...
Wed Jul 24, 2013 5:11 pm
I agree, 3-6 million players rather than 10-12

Agree with this, love the ambition and we are right to et our sights high, why not? But lets get a few through the door and then go for the big guns..

That's another one

Doesn't it say that he and his agent have been in negotiations with Athletico for ages, but they haven't (yet) matched his club's valuation. That is where Capoue wants to go if a deal can be agreed.
Cardiff did match the valuation - coming in much more recently - but he turned it down a few days back.
Not so much 'one that got away' - more one we didn't manage to hijack!
However, it is still unresolved so I suppose anything could happen if Athletico fail to make an acceptable offer.

Yep. It's all well and good bidding over £10million for players but the whole profile of the club has to raise first before players of this type consider us.
We know we have a bit of cash, the debt is now managed and there is potential for more investments but as news it barely registers across the UK never mind Europe. It's not like we are. man City and their profile changed overnight with hundreds of millions being spent.

We need to be more realistic I'm sorry, we should be going for the likes of Dorrans not European talent like Capoue who are clearly out of our league. Instead of wasting our time and being laughed at by players, agents and clubs who laugh at us even trying to attract these sort of players, we should limit ourselves

Is he factualf or another unsubstantiated rumour?

We're going to have to lower our standard, do a Norwich. Just because you have money available, doesn't mean you have to buy the most expensive players. I'm sure there are cheaper players we can get to keep us up. Then if we're doing well in January, look at raising our standards. Being a first time Premier League club, you can understand players won't want to come here, they want Premier League football long term

I don't think it matters anymore. If we didn't talk about the unsubstantiated rumours we'd have fack all else to talk about in respect to player recruitment.

Think the recruitment team need to start talks with realistic targets before its to late.
Wed Jul 24, 2013 6:26 pm
At the end of the day money talks I believe that we will attract big money signings as the transfer window goes on

Ramirez was their top signing by far agreed. I didn't say we shouldn't spend money, just be more realistic with our targets... Soton also spent around 7 mil on a championship player too!!

This guy is a Spanish news reporter and has just tweeted these two tweets:-
David @davidjaca 13m
Cardiff (newly promoted) outbidding Atletico (one of Spain's CL representatives) for a player. Nothing to see here.
David @davidjaca 14m
Atletico with €5m + €7m bids rejected. Can't afford more. Toulouse have accepted Cardiff €10m bid for Etienne Capoue.
Looks like Athletico Madrid can't afford more than 7m Euro's. Toulouse want around 11.5 and that's what we've bid and had accepted.

Of all the European players that we have been linked with this one seems to have motivated the the sporting press on twitter. There are Italian, French and Spanish Journalists tweeting as well as Mark Jacobs of The Times.
Okay they are questioning Athletico Madrids inability to compete and asking why someone like a Chelsea are not in for him, but its interesting at least.
