Striker Nelson Oliveira picks Potters

Any lingering hopes Cardiff had of signing Portuguese striker Nelson Oliveira are over after he agreed a deal to join Stoke.

Striker picks Potters Cardiff boss Malky Mackay had been in the running but now reports in Portugal say it is a done deal with the Potters and the Bluebirds boss has missed out on another target. Stoke have been locked in talks with Benfica and the two clubs have agreed a loan fee of 1.1million euros, but according to reports in Portugal there is no option in the deal to make it permanent at the end of the season. The 21-year-old spent last term on loan with Spanish outfit Deportivo La Coruna, who paid Benfica 600,000 euros, and with first-team opportunities again set to be limited at the Stadium of Light, coach Jorge Jesus is happy to send him out again. Oliveira also sees a move to Stoke, where he would hope to play regular football in the Premier League, as a great opportunity to put himself in the shop window, just in case he does not make it at Benfica.

Good. For a lad that is 6 ft 1 he is weak on the ball. I'd rather have Cameron Jerome back here than have signed him.
