" ONLY THE STRONGEST SURVIVE "

24th July 2013.

Cardiff Manager Malky Mackay has gone on record this week saying "We're not in the market for a striker" despite media reports of chases of Nelson Olivera and renewed interest in Oscar Cardozo.

So Far Mackay has only landed the reasonably unknown but highly rated young Dane Andreas Cornelius.

And the Forward joins the likes of Nicky Maynard,Frazier Campbell,Craig Bellamy,Joe Mason And Rudy Gestede.
Whilst the Latter are certainly not expected to be starters or even competitors for starting places,Can either be relied on to make to make the step up should injuries strike again?
Take Newcastle for instance, Alan Pardew's side last season were expected to push on from their previous seasons exploits but sadly due to an unfortunate injury crisis in several areas,up until January they were struggling.Pardew bolstered his squad with a French Revolution if you will and his side found their feet.
Can we take that risk? Malky says "he wants 5 or 6" but will it be enough?
Personally I don't want to see Cardiff going out and offering over the odds for average money grabbers ala QPR but we do need to add some solid and sensible experience into the side.
Players are out there that could dramatically improve the size and strength of our squad and we have until Sept 2nd to get them. For if we are heading into the January window with the need to considerably improve our playing staff in order to survive then we will be doomed. And Football fans and Foreign owners in the past at this level have not been too forgiving.

Couldn't agree more. Bellamy apart, there is currently no one in the squad with extensive experience at PL level.
This is a unforgiving league as Reading found out and remember Saint's struggled for large periods as well ending in the sack of Nigel Adkins.

We need an experienced proven goal scorer. 2-3 defenders and another in Midfield. We will get injuries and suspensions.
Our current defence is good for the championship but I feel unless we get more experience in we will get punished all too often. The reality is, it's the teams outside the top six we need to compete and get results against to survive and hopefully along the way pick up some surprise points from the big boys as well.

At the end of the day, Malky knows best and I'm sure we'll see the quality needed arrive in the not too distant future! Let's hope so. :malky:

5-6 is all that is needed but I can't see them coming any time soon. :sad7:

They'll arrive, but it might take some time. I believe Malky is not going to just get anyone in just to make numbers up - in fairness, he is looking at top quality - and that can only enhance the squad.

I'll tell you what I think. I think VT is lining up for the future, new billionaire investors from China/Asia. As we've already witnessed, Tan is ruthless, but he's a winner and his goal is to establish us as a top six club - make no mistake about it. :ayatollah:

But are Malkys and Tans Targets to big for our club as it stands currently?
Cardozo for instance,he is a big name and would've sent serious messaeges across the league that we are not here to make up the numbers. But does any fan honestly feel we have or had a chance of actually getting him to sign on the dotted line for a club he probably had never heard of,without offering ridiculous ammounts of incentives?.

After the last few years and especially with our recent Wembley appearances - he would have heard of us. As for signing, that depends on incentives and will he play that often. The play factor is fairly obvious with us, but a top 6 side - not so. So it'll come down to personal terms and the fee of course. So in answer, yes, why not.
