A forum for all things Cardiff City

Cardiff City have been given the green light to sign Norwich defender Leon Barnett on a permanent deal after he was left behind as the Canaries flew to the United States for their pre-season tour.Barnett spent part of last season on loan with the Bluebirds, playing a key part in helping them win the Championship and climb into the Premier League.
The centre-half has been linked all summer with a move back to the Welsh club and could now be in his way, although Crystal Palace may make a late bid for his services.
Norwich boss Chris Hughton said: ‘At the moment Leon is not in my plans. He has shown a desire to play regular football and of course I can understand that.
‘He went out on loan to Cardiff and what he would like to do is go and play somewhere where he is going to start on a regular basis.
‘That is simply the only reason we have not brought Leon out here to America. He is a good trainer, he works hard every day and I have no problems on that score but certainly at this moment he is not one that would be in my plans for the season.’

That's an open invitation, the deals probably being done as we speak.I like him ,a good player who can do a job for us in the prem.

He seemed quite good to me and a good reason why we went up but we should be aiming higher than Norwich rejects
Sun Jul 21, 2013 2:57 pm
Doncaster it seems

The mighty Norwich don't want him for a reason he's not good enough for the prem.

This was always on the cards and rightly so. Norwich obviously think he doesn't fit with them but he looked inspired playing for us. Sometimes its just the timing in a players career and I suspect his solid performances for us was that he knew his days were numbered for FC Delia. Good signing IMHO.

Agree, and Norwich seem to be getting in a player every week.

Just because he isnt in hughtons
Plans doeant mean he isnt good enough
For the premier league, different players suit
Different managers and different styles of play.
Fair play there are some absolute cretins on here

No denying the guy did a great job for us last season.....
However the idea of him joining us this season doesn't excite me or fill me with confidence that we can't find or attract someone better,,,

I think so. Many of us were impressed by how he seemed to immediately fit in and he certainly put the shifts in too. I'd like to see him here as I think that the timing is right. Would have liked to see him get a Championship Winners medal too. He wants to be he, whatever the reason and I think he'd do a job for us.

not good enough imo, but at this stage we need the numbers.
Mon Jul 22, 2013 9:22 am
Is he premiership standard ?
Mon Jul 22, 2013 9:24 am
Not a glamour signing but he's solid enough and defensive cover is exactly what we want at present...

Totally agree

The last contact he had with Malky was at the end of last season. Malky thanked him for his efforts and thats all.
Barnett would like to come to Cardiff but has had no contact from anyone at Cardiff City at the moment
Mon Jul 22, 2013 12:39 pm
Not sure if I want him to be honest, of course he did great for us towards the end of last season but that was in the Championship. Not sure if he would be any good for us in the Premier League.
Mon Jul 22, 2013 12:42 pm
I'd welcome him back.
Mon Jul 22, 2013 1:14 pm
He looked one of our best defenders on the running to winning the championship imo,so as some say on here he's not good enough then we will struggle with are back line this coming season. If we get him he'll be fist choice imo and not back up.
However getting a player is another thing
Mon Jul 22, 2013 1:27 pm
If Malky wants to sign him thats all the convincing I need.
Mon Jul 22, 2013 2:39 pm
Barnett and Kimbo were our best performers by a mile at the end of the season. If people think Barnett won't be good enough, then the rest of our squad isn't good enough and needs replacing! I don't care if Norwich are willing to let him go, judging on how he played for us at the end of the season, he will be a good signing, especially for only a small fee! We only conceded 4 goals in the 8 games he played for us and 2 of those were penalties at Peterborough. The only 2 goals in open play we conceded with Barnett playing was Barnsley's equaliser with the last kick of the game and Burnley away when McNaughton allowed their player to outjump/outmuscle him. Those are great stats and shows what a difference he made for us last season.

I'd take him back here, good solid lad and just because he 's not in CH's plans doesn't make him a bad player. Seemed to like it here too so maybe that will go in our favour.
And more importantly last time around he WANTED to be here.
Mon Jul 22, 2013 3:30 pm
Judging by some of the comments on here Malky needs to be seriously looking to
strengthen up front aswell.
After all, Maynard and Campbell were surplus to requirements at Premier League giants West Ham and Sunderland
so they must be shit and not good enough for the Premiership
Mon Jul 22, 2013 3:46 pm
i cant understand why he is not here holding up a shirt right now
was so impressive... no matter where he goes or what he does he will always be welcome at ccs and get superb round of applause
he didnt know the lads, the set up, the surroundings and just slotted right in as if hed been here for years
if anything id like to see how he would peform alongside huds never mind how he peformed in place of him
will never forget the effort he put in helping us toward promotion
unless malky got his on on someone else he should have arrived by now...
Mon Jul 22, 2013 4:55 pm
It seems a no brainer to sign him up really
Hes a better defender than matt connolly in my opinion.
Hopefully theyre will be a championship winners medal waiting for leon when he signs, coz he bloody well deserves one.Was exceptional for us under difficult circumstances and will be revitalised under malky
Mon Jul 22, 2013 5:24 pm
If Leon is not good enough, where does that leave Hudson and Turner? Because for me he is definitely on par with them.
Mon Jul 22, 2013 9:12 pm
Done a great job when he was needed but I wouldn't be overwhelmed with this signing, We should look to bring in better players. He's unable to get into the Norwich team neither could he get into the WBA, What chances has he got with us?! Malky has already stated he's not signing players for numbers but quality players that will improve the squads quality and I don't think Leon will do that. We need better players than what we already got
Mon Jul 22, 2013 9:49 pm
good enough for a cover player?
Mon Jul 22, 2013 10:47 pm
I thought he was solid but as u say is he premiership quality
Mon Jul 22, 2013 11:48 pm
To be frank, he was no more than a stop-gap whilst he was on loan to the club. I'm sure there are better options available, somewhere. Having said all that, I wouldn't be up in arms should the club sign him.
