Olivirira if he signs

Sat Jul 20, 2013 11:22 am

A few supporters In other threads not impressed by his stats . The guy is only 21 for goodness sake .if his stats were better then he wouldn't be coming on loan surely . This kind of signing can either be a master stroke or blow up in your face .
Seen him on u-tube looks very impressive ( so do they all ) because that's their best bits of course .
He's gonna be hungry , with a point to prove , this is a massive opportunity for the guy .he won't cost a lot ,not a big gamble .
You don't always have to spend big , lets hope mm has found a gem .

Spot on. With a run of games he can hopefully get us a few goals. by the sounds of it his appearances last season were mainly from the bench because the fans wanted Spanish players and not Portuguese.

If he doesn't do too well it was a cheap gamble. Good to have 4 strikers pushing for 1, maybe 2 places and could enable us to send Mason out on loan for experience and send Gestede to whoever wants him

Look at the Bale situation, a few years ago he couldn't even make the bench at Spurs. Look at him now in the top 3 in the world and now rumoured to be worth anything between 60 & 90 million.

Players progress and improve at different times there are no set rules to say he has to be this good at that age.

Give the lad a chance, who would have thought a few years ago we would have a portuguese international in our team (if he signs).

You never know he could score decisive goals to keep us up. If thats the case then what an absolute bargain. No reason why not looking at his impressive run in the under 20 world cup! You don't make 2nd best tournament player by accident and that wasn't that long ago. Sounds like a great prospect! :ayatollah:

Benteke and Michu were very prolific and well known before joining Prem Clubs weren't they ;) .

Give the lad a chance before you all shoot him down :ayatollah:

Michu was the highest scoring midfielder in La Liga. His quality was known but the price paid was a bargain

I couldn't believe what I was reading about him on the other thread - but then again, these boards are full of miserable cunts whose glasses are permanently half-empty. Obvious talent with bags of potential but hasn't quite found the right club yet. We could be the perfect club for him. I've no doubt we'll bring in another, more experienced centre forward, and with it being a season loan(if its true)then there's zero risk to us. Another positive is how vast our scouting networks are becoming

France, Denmark, Scotland, Holland, Spain, Argentina, Japan and now Portugal. These are just the countries we know of. The narrow minded critics seriously haven't a clue

Michu was scoring a lot in Spain and Benteke had a good record as well. :?

It makes you wonder why players sign for us some times with the negative crap that is banded around the message boards. People were moaning about no signings and now we potentially have one in the bag according to reports they are not happy.

Rock and hard place comes to mind, Malky can't win with some people.

spend a million for a loan player and send Mason ( who could do the same job ) out on loan. Crazy when you know what you're getting with Joe. :o

You say Mason could do the same job as Oliviera but then you say we don't know what we are getting with him. I think Mason is more like Maynard and Campbell but not as good. Oliviera is like a targetman from what I have read?

Watching a few YouTube videos of him and one comment struck me 'He's a good talent and has a lot of potential, hopefully a manager can settle him down'

Malky is that man :ayatollah:

Your saying Mason can do the same job as Oliviera but isn't Oliviera more of a target man? I personally don't think Mason is ready for Premier League football and a spell on loan with a recall option in January would suit us and him. 1 million isn't a lot for someone with 10 Portugal caps. If it doesn't work out then it was a cheap gamble, if it does then its a great bit of business. I have never seen him play in fairness but his youtube videos (hate saying that because Eddie Johnson looked a world beater) shows he has a great touch and looks good at finishing too.
