' Bluebirds Unite & CCST hit back after Tan's comments '

Fri Jul 19, 2013 4:27 pm

Cardiff City fans have hit back at Vincent Tan’s claims about them being ‘disruptive’ and ‘ungrateful’ as they continue to oppose the club’s controversial rebranding.

The Bluebirds’ billionaire boss, whose money delivered the Premier League dream, says he is “surprised and disappointed” by the on-going discontent.

“Maybe they are not grateful. We need the fans not to be negative, disruptive,” said Tan. “I can take a little bit of criticism, but too much, too often isn’t good or positive.”

However, two fans groups have dismissed the comments:

" Sian Branson (a founder of Bluebirds Unite, who are against the re-brand) "

Vincent Tan’s comments completely baffle me. I find them disappointing and quite arrogant.

Bluebirds Unite have never once criticised the club for their victories and success of last season. We thank Vincent Tan for his money and input.

However, to us Cardiff City will only really be recognised for the true identity of the club we grew up with.

We believe that we are at our greatest time in football terms, but any victory will be tainted because it will not be achieved under our own brand.

Being from Wales means culture, history and heritage are factors we have been brought up with and are ingrained in us from a young age.

That is why we find it impossible to back down from petitioning for our club to be restored to its true identity.

We have gone out of our way to ensure Bluebirds United is something fans can join and be proud to call themselves Bluebirds.

We want to celebrate our club’s heritage and are not setting out to be negative.

We waited until the end of last season so as to avoid disrupting anything at a crucial stage.

Today, with Cardiff City are on the world stage, we are prepared to stand up and show what the Bluebirds are about.

Tan says only five per cent of the club’s fan base are against the rebrand, but 10 per cent of the fan base are Unite members already – and we expect that number to double.

We have 5,000 facebook followers, 2,000-plus on twitter, plus a lot of traffic going through our website. There were 600 people at our meeting at the Corporation in Canton.

So far we cannot see any plausible reason for the re-brand of our club. Disruption has been caused by that move.

Our campaign is about being blue and proud of our club’s identity.

Tim Hartley (chairman of Cardiff City Supporters Trust)

Cardiff fans are grateful to Vincent Tan for the investment in our club. We are in the Premier League, where we have wanted to be for half a century.

The financial support of our Malaysian owner has also been absolutely crucial in achieving a dream many of us thought that we would never see.

However, a lot of supporters and many Trust members have hardened their views on the re-brand and want a return to the traditional blue.

We have asked the football club to at least compromise on the colours in acceptance of the wishes of most fans. But we will work with the club and staff to ensure to ensure Cardiff City make a success of their Premier League status.

A fans’ survey we conducted showed strong support for a return to the traditional blue kit when we play at the Cardiff City Stadium.

History and tradition are very important to many Bluebirds supporters while appreciating the club has to move forward.

The survey results showed many fans would urge Mr Tan to consider compromise.

A Trust statement issued by us after the survey said: “We believe it is important at this time to ensure that everyone is pulling in the same direction and that there is a strong sense of unity.

We believe it is important to have a period of stability as we enter very exciting times for the club and its supporters.

We urge Mr Tan to consider returning the first-team home kit to blue at the earliest opportunity with red becoming the away kit.

We are sure if that were to happen it would be warmly welcomed by an overwhelming majority of supporters.

This is getting boring now, Tan quite rightly will never change his mind. He owns the club now and therefore why should he. This club is now un-recognisable since he took over and I like the vast majority (95%) of fans don't really care what colour we play in now. :malky: :malky: :malky: :malky:

Apparently there are over 100,000 people on the database, if this is true, then I doubt there are 10000 members in BU

Although compromise is key, and returning to blue at home, I think everyone would settle for that. :ayatollah:

Some right f*cking dickheads posting on here. i suspect you've supported Cardiff City for about oh, three
years?

How f*cking dare you slag off supporters who have supported the Club for decades and are proud of our history
and heritage. To suggest Tan has never heard of the Group is infantile. Why the f**k do you think he brought
the subject up? The CCST has also made a statement today as well.

Tan may or may not ever change his mind but im not apologising to some johnny cum lately wankers for
wanting Tan to show me a bit of respect.

Its fact. If Tan left tomorrow and took all his money, fans like BU would still be fans. We'd start again.
You lot would be back in your Arsenal tops within a week

Im massively in favour of a return to blue but lets Be honest here

If tan had not saved our club when he did !

We would more than likely be back in league 1 or 2 facing a further points deduction for being in administration ( ie , Luton , Portsmouth , Southampton )

We would not be watching players of the like of Craig Bellamy , kimbo , Campbell or Maynard

We would not be getting 10million pound bids for world class players turned down

We would not be expanding the stadium we could very well be selling it

We would not have a very good up and coming manager like Mackay in charge

We would not be looking forward to a premier league season against the worlds top teams

We would not have made a league cup final losing to Liverpool only on penaltys

We would not be building a top notch academy costing millions

We would not be on the verge of settling debts running back nearly a decade and finally being debt free

If tan walks away

Well lets hope these groups don't force that issue because we may well have no colour at all if they piss him off !!!

We need proper constructive dialogue with him or his advisors not fan groups calling him arrogant and urging him to turn HIS buisness to something he doesn't believe will be successful .

Statements like these will do nothing but harm IMO

For the record I'm in favour of bu but they need to know there place and there place is a group where fans can reminisce and remember the blue days and keep the memory alive not put out statements that could possibly hurt every fan of this great club !

The trusts statement is well worded fair play bu take note ! And I'm not a trust member either .

I signed up to Bluebirds Unite because at the time I thought they were going about things the right way, then I read the "Official Bluebirds Unite" statement on thier facebook page and that changed my opinion in a heartbeat. The statement makes the claim that our club has become "A Genetically Modified Malaysian Team" by the rebrand  It also says that the author wants no debate on the issues. How on earth anyone can take that nonsense seriously is beyond me but there you go.

My opinion is the same as yours in that compromise is the key to our club returning to our traditional colours, the colours that the majority of fans "Identify" our team with. This is where the direction of any discussion with VT should go, it's not that we have been robbed of our identity because that hasn't changed as we are still Cardiff City Football Club. By the way the official "Bluebirds Unite" statement says they want to play in the Premier League or any other league as Cardiff City Bluebirds - isn't that a rebrand. :?

Reading the comments by the lady from Bluebirds Unite and the guy from the Trust it's clear to me that we should be leaving this issue to the Trust, there is far less emotion in what they are saying and, in my opinion, it's far more likely they will win the day.

Re: BU and CCST hit back after Tan's comments

I'm sure all supporters are grateful for the money that VT has put into the club, but i have yet to hear a plausible reason why changing the kit to red is of benefit to the club.
Im guessing the people of Malaysia and other Far East countries do not buy a football shirt because of what colour it is - they buy because the team is successful.
And to get a successful team you have to buy quality players, no team has been successful because of what colour shirts they wear.
Obviously VT can do what he wants - it's his money after all. But he must be very naive if he thinks people will not be upset by his changes.

Fully agree with you. I'm all for what Bluebirds United are doing but from what I've seen so far it hasnt left me with much confidence specially towards the way they are acting towards fans who aren't supporting them with the whole "selling souls" and such. I hope BU can carry on and gain momentum as long as they stick to wanting to get blue back and not pushing tan out and ruin the chance to make the club debt free (not that I think they will). I support their passion though :ayatollah:

Can somebody explain to me this Sian woman's mathematics?

We have over 100,000 on our fanbase, so how does 5,000 likes (of which many are probably multiple accounts) equate to 10% of our fan base?

If she's trying to add the 2,000 twitter followers it's obvious to most people that they are one in the same. And to add to that just because an account is followed on twitter it doesn't mean that person agrees with your views.

If Tan leaves our club in the shit there's one finger of blame......and it's pointed at BU.

Don't the BU heirarchy realise that the media are always looking for a devisive story and they are feeding them by the minute.

The big test will be how many people turn up on 25th for their march to the stadium.I don't think many will.Easy to push a button on Facebook or twitter or claim they've got a certain amount of people on board. We'll find out on the 25th.

Does anybody actually know the actual figure on the database?

I bought my first season ticket about 18 years ago and I'm Fan Number 35,000 something. With our recent success over the last 5 years I suspect the base will be well over 100,000 by now, but I don't claim to know the true figure.

The point is this Sain woman is plucking percentage figures out of thin air, and as usual the lazy welsh media lap it up because it's a devisive story.
