For our younger viewers he was our record signing around 1982 I think we paid £250k, didn't last long, a couple of months but I can't remember why.

I thought it was about 110k and I think it was case of him not settling and went back for the same money.Would gladly be put right as the memory doesn't serve as well as it used to.

I googled and came up with 180k, 200k and 380k, not just our memories then, definitely wasn't 380K, either way this was our transfer record until we signed Leo for 300K

A bit of an enigma this fella, but I'm old enough to remember him. We paid (allegedly) £200.000 for him in September 1982, from San Jose Earthquakes, & sold him back to them for that exact same figure about nine weeks later

.
For the records, GI played a total of 14 games for City (11 league), making his City debut at home to Sheffield Utd, on the 25th Sept 1982. City won 2-0. His last league game for us was away to Lincoln City on Nov 13th 1982, with us loosing 1-2.
He scored two league goals for us during his short stay, a goal v Gillingham 16/10/82 (1-0 home), & a goal v PNE 06/11/82 (3-1 home win).

It's was a loan more or less, went back for same money. Think that was the plan from the start

It was a bit strange altogether, we didn't have a pot to piss in but we paid 200k for a few weeks and then got it back, I'm thinking tax fiddle, remember laughing when they announced the attendance

Remember it well we had him from San Jose Earthquakes cost 250K which was our record signing at the time but basically it was a loan as we 'sold' him back for the same amount a couple of months later

I remember him well too, promo season of 82/83, his signing caused huge excitement at the time, ex england international joining little old us in division 3 from san jose, i think he may have even put a couple thousand on the gate for his first home game.
In that game jeff hemmerman set him up perfectly unmarked on the edge of the 6 yard box, only for our new superstar to miss the ball completely and fall flat on his outsize arse. The whole crowd burst into laughter and from that moment on he had the piss ripped out of him more than eddie johnson ever did.
Fortunately we signed bob hatton and everything was fine and ingram became just an amusing memory.
