Malky calm over lack of signings

Thu Jul 18, 2013 7:08 am

Cardiff City manager Malky Mackay remains calm about the club's lack of business in the transfer market ahead of their Premier League debut.

The Bluebirds have only signed Danish striker Andreas Cornelius, but Blackpool winger Tom Ince turned down a move to the Championship winners.
Mackay confirmed he is looking to sign players and is confident they will be in place in time for the season.

We have targets and they will come in at different stages," said Mackay.

"Ideally, you want everyone in early but if you look at my track record in the last couple of years it is about getting the right person and if they are the right person they adapt quickly."

Cardiff have signed Denmark international Cornelius on a five-year contract from FC Copenhagen for a club record £7.5m.
The 6ft 4in striker was top scorer in the 2012-13 Danish Superliga, scoring 18 goals in 32 appearances.
But Cardiff saw Blackpool's England Under-21 winger Ince turn down a move to the Welsh capital.

The Seasiders accepted Cardiff's £8m offer for Ince and he held talks with the newly promoted Premier League side but decided to stay at Bloomfield Road.
The Welsh side are currently on their pre-season training camp in Switzerland and Mackay admits he is prepared to sign players right up to transfer deadline day.

"As far as I am concerned we have to be very cute in bringing in players to the football club," said Mackay.
"Ideally, you would love to have everyone in for day one of pre-season, but that is never going to happen when you are looking for good players and there is competition for those players.

"There are lost of different stages to go through before a player signs on the dotted line."
Mackay says he has a good track record in the transfer market but will only sign players he believes will improve his squad at the Cardiff City Stadium.

"It has to stack up financially," said Mackay.
"And [it] has to be someone who is better than what we have got here.
"That being the case I then have to look for a level of player that can improve our football club. That is never easy at any club.

"I have recruited 30 players now in two years, so myself and my team know exactly the way we want to go about it

I wouldn't be calm with so little time to bed players in.
Will tan give Malky time to get things right if we're around the relegation zone.

I don't think tan would give Malky the time to get it right

what, like in the panic stricken loan period when we get the pick of the rejects

I am wondering how long the fans will remain patient with Mackays"paint by numbers approach" to the transfer market?

I know there are doubters, and rightly so, but I'm keeping the faith with Malky, I think he will get us a few more signings, even if it does take a while, and I genuine believe he will keep us up

He can be as calm as he wants, we all know the old time to gell or not fit enough due to no pre season excuses will come if we fail next season, eitherway he will never win  :ayatollah:

Angelis49 - July 4th 2012:

The.....fill the space with any old rubbish story's in the South Wales Echo, clearly demonstrates the lack of transfer news at the moment, now it could be argued that this is a good sign, and news of transfer deals are imminent, but it could also mean that Mackay has lost his way, once again in the transfer window, remember this man has previous on this issue, the case for Mackays defense trotted out by his loyal supporters, that no other clubs are doing business is becoming more irrelevant by the day,so until i see the Echo report that we have made a number of quality signings,i will hold to my view, that Mackay is inept when it comes to making ambitious signings............so my message to Mackay is a clear one,no more safety first signings,no waiting until the eve of the season before making any signings at all,and for God sake, please, please no more work horses coming to the club, now all the above might be totally irrelevant, and that the club is on the verge of announcing headline signings, and if they do i will, like i have stated many times on here, will be one of the first to write an apology to Mackay and his supporters for getting it wrong, and trust me i hope im wrong, but i have to say its all looking ominously similar to last seasons transfer windows fiasco

Posted a week or so before Bellamy, Mutch, Kim Bo, Turner and Maynard came in. We were top over xmas with our main
striker injured pretty much from day 1. January he signed Frazer Campbell who scored 7 goals in 12 games. We then
lost our Captain for the rest of the season and he immediately went out and got Leon Barnett in on loan who helped
steady the defence over the finishing line. I find it hard to believe Angelis49 is leaving himself wide open yet again and
even harder to believe that with his track record so far at Cardiff City, people are spitting their dummys out again

He has to get it right as if we dont get a good start he will be under pressure with the fans ,media ,tan etc you cant see Tan being loyal if he thinks we are in a dodgy position ,now we are in the prem Tan will not want us to slip out ,unfortunately thats the pressure of being in the top league and I dont think Tan will think twice if he thinks we could be in trouble ,malky will only keep his job if hes succuessful,I think we will do ok.

I think Tan along with most sensible fans will be well aware that we will spend a fair bit of time around the relegation zone. Particularly prior to Christmas as the most likely points come post Christmas if you look ath the fixtures.

Anyone thinking otherwise, no matter who we do/don't sign, is just being unrealistic. The simple fact is that as long as we finish in 17th place next May then the season will have been a success :ayatollah: The following season is where the real expectations can start to kick in :ayatollah:

Well if he rushed in and bought any fucker just to add to the squad numbers for the sake of it without worrying about the quality of player we wod be in trouble this year! With angelis and the rest of these impatient numpties on here we would be fucked!

I honestly believe that the patience and care that goes into Malkys signings will prove the very
reason we do not flutter around the relegation zone all season. He WILL spend, but will spend well

They never learn, and even though they keep getting proved wrong, still regurgitate the same boring nonsense over and over. It's f*cking embarrassing

I love it when our fans give it "In Malky We Trust", but then question as to why we havn't made many signings :laughing6:

Over the two seasons MM has been pretty shrewd in the transfer market and only got players in who meet his criteria. Never has he made any panick buys, so why start now?

Personally i'm very happy at the route he has gone down and appears to continue going down, by looking at young hungry players with potential, a point to prove and that will be with us for a long period of time to develop. Same policy Real Madrid are applying this season.

We saw what happened with QPR and Sunderland. Made a vast ammount of signings with "Premiere League experience" and failed substantially.

In Malky I trust and will continue to do so!

Yes it is embarrassing, these muppets make me want to puke!!!!!!!

We all want to see quality coming in ASAP, I'm sure Malky has a plan and I for one am confident he knows exactly what he is doing :malky: :malky: :malky:

Other thing is don't read what's been said? he clearly states the kind of player he brings in fit in quickly, because that's kind players he buys. :malky:

Ive got faith he will bring the right players in. But I was hoping for a few signed already. Lets just hope he gets a few quality players in, especially defenders

I have faith in Malky :ayatollah:

How many poor signings has he made? You could probably count them on two fingers!

Next week I feel we will have a influx of signings, everyone will be back from the training camp and it's when we have fixtures against some opposition so Malky will want to bring some in and see how they fit in his plans :ayatollah:
