What do fans expect of Cornelius?

Wed Jul 17, 2013 6:54 pm

Keen to hear what fans think Cornelius can deliver this season?

How much of those expectations is based on his transfer fee? Do we assume players should perform better, just because a club was persuaded to spend lots of money on them?

This new article suggests we shouldn't - http://hitrowz.com/2013/07/17/moving-th ... ts-part-1/

One thing is for certain,
Cornelius will offer an ariel threat and that is something we have most definitely been lacking and Malky has obviously pinpointed this through watching us train, play and no doubt through analyzing the stats put together by his team.
We could probably count on one hand the times we've scored through headers due to them being so memorable and it's predominantly the defenders who have been getting these headed goals, Hudson and Conolly mostly and these have been down to great deliveries and very rarely in open play although as I write this Rudy springs to mind but even he as a striker did not get as many as he should have.
There are a few factors to consider of course.
Rudy's general play has been pretty poor and apart from Whittingham we haven't had a player who can regularly deliver a good diagonal ball or cross into the box from open play, Conway delivered a few quality balls into the box from his marauding runs but we definitely didn't have a quality header of a ball at the end of too many of those.
Although Conway is very direct and makes ground from his runs it is yet to be seen if he can continue that at Premiershi level and his pace is questionable but i like to think he will at some point be given a chance to prove me wrong. The Jury is still out on that one.
Nooney rarely crosses the ball and has been guilty of taking too much on at times although he was one of our more exciting players last season.
Bellamy probably didnt perforn as well as we all expected but was always seen to put a good shift in but then again that can be said about every one of The players who took to the pitch for every minute of every game last season
Alas...I digress
Cornelius will give us strength, power and a much needed ariel threat from set pieces and from open play.

Mostly that he is given time, remember kimbo, i think if he is we can gradually expect a very good goalscorer to work well with maynard/campbell and someone whits kimbo etc will love picking out with a pass.

To be given a little bit of time to ease into English football and to then score a lot of goals for us.

how come trolls like this dont get banned, ruining every thread..

anyway as long as he nips in with 8-12 goals then that £8.5m is well speant, we've been lacking a target man who also has good ability with his feet

To give central defenders nightmares, hold the ball up and bring others into the attack, assists and of course goals. Then he can rest :ayatollah:

I genuinely think this guy is going to be a menace to all defences. But he cannot be rushed. Hes massive, strong and has pace and quick feet. One for instant effectiveness and huge for the future

I'd like to think he's going to be our Andy Carroll...

This season's Andy Carroll, or this season's Michu? Or somewhere in the middle?

V interesting to hear how you guys think he will fit into the system.

What does everyone think generally about importance of price tags? Do we get overly fixated on them?

Re: What do fans expect of Cornelius?

Yeah, I think price tags can be overly analysed - we need to remember that the player isn't necessarily worth 6 million, or even 600,000 - it's just the price the club is willing to pay to get him. I don't think a transfer fee is a true indicator of a player's worth. Is Torres really worth 50 million? Probably not.

I reckon a player's worth is calculated over the games he plays for us - it's no good someone saying that Cornelius is overpriced having just arrived at the club. If he scores 12 goals for us this season and sets up a load of others, he'll be worth everything to us. If he does nothing, then he'll appear overpriced.

He will quickly become a cult figure with our fanbase. Malky went all out to get this signing and he will take the Premier League by storm :ayatollah:

I think he will get 10-12 goals with the players we have now. However if we get some more quality players out wide, full backs/winger ,Cornelius could get 16-20 goals imo. What ever happens he's a Cardiff player. 8-)

New poster so hi all.   :ayatollah: :ayatollah:
