IS IT WORRYING ???

Wed Jul 17, 2013 6:36 pm

The criteria to be eligible for a West Ham ticket was originally 3 aways, then dropped to 2 aways and today it is now open to all current season ticket holders and gold members.

I am genuinely surprised that we have not sold more tickets than we currently have, at a recent travel group meeting I stated that I believed we would sell our allocation for the first game regardless of the opposition.

Judging by sales so far it seems I am very wrong.

At this moment we have not sold 50% of our allocation.

Cardiff City are in the PL/top flight for the first time in 51 years.

Home crowds highest for over 40 years.

On Friday West Ham will want to know how many of our allocation we require. After the first 1,500 West Ham will sell us blocks of 500 at a time, which the club must purchase.

Last season we didn't sell out our allocation at games like Burnley, Hull, Boro, Birmingham, Leeds, Blackburn, Millwall, Charlton and Palace etc and at many of these games we were top of the league and ended up as our best season for 51 years.

So what are the reasons and is it worrying ??

Is it Premier League prices and are people saving for the top 6 teams ?

Is it a carryover from last season and the rebrand?

Is it the opposition?

Are we not as big a club as we think we are ?

First game sales look poor when in previous seasons we have always taken excellent support to our first away game regardless of the division?

Is it purely our fan base has changed and don't travel as much?

Can anyone think of a reason why our sales are slow and low ?

£42 a ticket for a team that we've played away at as recently as 2011 I think is the main reason.

Its not worrying in my opinion because It to shows we are not as big as people like to think, most clubs would have snapped them up within a day or two even bradford city would have sold out within 48hours ffs :ayatollah:

Easy answer.

Money.

£42 a ticket? Yeah, no thanks.

I think the price is high but did anyone really expect anything less? What im suprised at is this will set you up well for the following games further in the season (I hope). Depends what the qualifying criteria is but on this basis I thought they would get snapped up.

Lets hope people who travel to West Ham get priority in the near future.....

I doubt that will count when it comes to man utd, arsenal and other teams away who charge more

I dont think it matters who the game is against for Cardiff`s first away game in the premiership, I think it`s just the price of the overall day out which could be roughly £100+ for most people and a lot of people will struggle paying that kind of money . Maybe im wrong and people are being wise and trying their away days for the bigger teams. :dontknow:

I don't think so

1.cost - it's a recession. Also, having to pay up front for tickets as you enter the main holiday season is too much for some people.

2. People are still on holiday in August

3. The current heat wave - people aren't thinking about the football season. People don't spend much time thinking about football yet - when Sky start their blanket advertising about 2 weeks before the season starts, people will remember.

4. West Ham is one of the few places where people still worry about possible crowd related violence. People may be reluctant to risk wives and kids.

I honestly think a lot of people will decide late that they want to go. It's just too soon yet.

The rebrand? That's just a red herring! :malky: :ayatollah:

I would say travel restrictions has a lot to do with it...South Mimms voucher exchange is not the most exciting away day.

The main reason Imo is price, your ticket, travel, food,a few drinks,it all adds up and times are pretty tough for a lot of people these days. Then you've got the situation of some pubs that are going to show City's games live.
Fans are going to cherry pick away games for the reasons I've stated or maybe where just not as big a club as we think we are. :ayatollah:

Its a month away and people on holidays or saving for holidays or skint after holidays etc. Im actually in France that weekend, not that I would have gone anyhow £42 too much for me and better away trips to make :malky:

Carl honestly, I think the fans are missing a spark, we are missing that player who makes us eager for the season to start, talk of Ince, Wanyama, Cardozo, had fans watering at the mouth, but nothing since. As you will know, and any journalist will know, it's the incomings that excite the fans, and of course our special season started with the huge failure of the 2013/2014 kit launch.

It don't help that fans are using the rebrand to spend less on away travel as even our best aways last season were poor compared to huge away following in say 1993. I think the decision to allow any season ticket holders to go is a bonus, and the prices seem to be very fair, based on London club rates in the Premier League.

I think the club needs to get fans excited, I love that Malky keeps his cards close to his chest but there is nothing coming out of the club, apart from an English player who is in my eyes being led the wrong way by his father, and I think his career will suffer for it. I think, a few names and players in the mould that want to play for the club, who want play for the shirt will make a huge difference to the attitude and excitement of the fans supporting Cardiff City FC.

I'm personally, looking forward to the 'I love the City' night at the stadium August 9th, as I'm hoping Malky like last year, will unleash his summer targets and the night kick starts this Premiership journey we are all set to start..... Of course we then play at home to one of the biggest and historic clubs in Spain, Athletic Bilbao on the 10th.

Cornelius was a surprise to all, and I hope Malky and his management team, have more up there sleeves..... Come on city :malky: :malky:

I personally wouldn't pay £42 for a league football match, no matter who the opponent is.

Simply Can't afford away games anymore.

Re: IS IT WORRYING ???

Wed Jul 17, 2013 7:08 pm

The Jacks sold 3,000 for their first premier game. That game was on a Monday night and on Sky. The cost of a ticket was around£40. You had to be a Jack Army member or a ST to qualify.

If we don't sell our full allocation then we really need to look at ourselves closely.

Re: IS IT WORRYING ???

Wed Jul 17, 2013 7:11 pm

No it's not worrying at all, I'm certain we'll sell many allocations this season but a 17 year old like myself paying 42 quid for a ticket is disgusting. Understand Adults will be like well that's life etc but you have full time jobs to fall back on etc. Our support has a lot of young supporters and I feel that that's why the support is less anticipated. Most of our support are 16-25 etc

The Jacks had Man City. We have West Ham who we played not that long ago, where you get treated like shit, an incredibly shit view etc. Not for me thanks.

The PL is just a rebranded league. Won't bother me not going to that shit hole they call Upton Park :ayatollah:

They were also playing Man City who were favourites for the title who they hadn't played for at least a decade...

West Ham aren't exactly a glamour tie by any stretch of the imagination...

I don't know why everyone is worried the tickets were restricted to fans who had been to 3 aways last season , now the restrictions for the amount of away games they will sell out , I know loads of people who were hoping the tickets would be available just for season ticket holders as they were desperate to see our 1st Prem game

I just find this excuse amusing. Its our first game in the top flight for 50 years, it should not matter who we are playing.

Last season we didn't sell out our allocation at games like Burnley, Hull, Boro, Birmingham, Leeds, Blackburn, Millwall, Charlton and Palace etc and at many of these games we were top of the league and ended up as our best season for 51 years.

Burnley - ages away, early kick off, on sky but I thought we took good support
Hull - ages away, early kick off, on sky but I thought we took good support
Boro - Ages away, expensive and not exactly exciting
Birmingham - Didn't we sell 2000 and only missed a few off selling our allocation?
Leeds -
Blackburn - Friday night on Sky
Millwall - Meh, we could have done better
Charlton - average support
Palace - average support
