Malky Speaks out

16th July 2013

Cardiff City boss Malky Mackay admits he was disappointed Blackpool's Tom Ince declined to join the Bluebirds, but insists the club must now move onto other targets.
The Bluebirds had an £8m bid for the highly-rated winger accepted and even agreed personal terms with the 21-year-old's representatives.
Ince and his father Paul, the former Manchester United and Liverpool midfielder, who is now manager at the Seasiders, travelled to the Welsh capital to meet with Mackay and visit the Cardiff City Stadium and training ground.
But a few days later the England under-21 starlet decided against the move citing family reasons after his partner gave birth to their first child.
Mackay admits he is still not totally sure why the deal failed to materialise, but said Cardiff had gone about things in the best manner they could and is now targeting players who want to play for the club.

Our blogger Scott Johnson says Malky Mackay should look to Matt Phillips
“The boy and his father came down, we had a good chat and they decided not to do it, so we are moving on to our next target now,” said Mackay from the summer training camp in Switzerland.
“I don’t know what happened as far as family matters are concerned, but they wanted time to decide, I spoke to Paul again and he told me Tom had decided to stay at Blackpool. At that point I was disappointed naturally.
“But we need to move on to players who actually want to play for this club. You want people who want to be here - that is by far the most important thing.
“I felt we showed our club in the best light we could and we were very professional about everything. We spoke to the right people at the right time. We did things in the correct manner all the way through.
“If it’s no at the end of the day then that is that. We have had it with other players before during my time here so that is fine. It happens, that is why we have lists of people and now we move on.”
Mackay is working flat out to add four or five players to his squad ahead of the start of the Premier League campaign next month.
The Bluebirds have been linked with a move for Sunderland midfielder Jack Colback and a loan move for young Benfica striker Nelson Oliveira, but we understand neither is a target for Mackay.
But the Bluebirds boss, whose sole signing so far remains striker Andreas Cornelius from FC Copenhagen, said as soon as he discovered Ince had declined to join his side, his first thought was to move on to other targets.
Mackay says he only wants players totally committed to the Cardiff cause and is convinced the Bluebirds in the Premier League are an attractive proposition for anyone in the game.
“Within five minutes of being told Tom was not joining I’m one of those people who immediately moves on,” added Mackay.
“I’ve got a group right now that desperately want to be here and we want to add people who feel the same way as that.
“I want people who want to be here and I think for a variety of reasons be that career development or the chance to shine in the Premier League, this club presents a fantastic opportunity.”

Don't forget he is also his agent? How. Many agents have told clubs that player doesn't want the move? Loads guarantee because that's their job.

Once again Malky has shown his professionalism.
Such disappointment would surely have spurned other mere mortals to counter with harsh words on hearing such kick in the teeth news.
Malky knows that management can be a long game and he doesn't want to burn bridges for the future.
Already respected By Cardiff City fans en masse and Championship managers, if Malky carries on this way I'm sure he's gonna be a formidable manager for many many years to come in the Premier League....with Cardiff where we belong.
Nice one Malky.
