Who Buys Into This theory "Plenty of Time Left" Re Transfers

Tue Jul 16, 2013 9:03 am

City have had since May to look at and bring in new players. To date there has been 1 signing. Hopefully there will be 3/4 in a short space of time.

However, I think that preparation is just as important as to the players you bring in in achieving success. In an ideal world it has to be better to get your transfer business or the bulk of it done before pre season in order for the squad to work & gel together. A team playing as a team is just as powerful as a group of stars playing not as a team. For example, QPR last year brought in so many players and at different times at no stage did they seem to know what their best 11 was and they never seemed to play as a team. Many of our competitors in the survival stakes have brought in quite a few players and crack on with their pre season.

At this time, do you consider our squad to be strong enough to hold it's own in the Premier League. We are not talking about last season when we did bring in players late on. We are now in the Premier League and the work done up front will surely determine our chances of survival this season.

It's not panic time yet but I just hope that we manage to bring in some experienced quality and that we do not panic buy at the end of the window. Lets give our first crack at the Premier League a good go :malky: Views?

Hopefully we will get some in sooner rather than later ,love to see some here now as im on holidays next week so if we dont I wont have a clue until im back, but as long as we get the right players in before it all starts Ill be happy with that ,is a shame that we do seem slow but guess we will have to wait .

We did it last season why not, don't understand why everyone is panicking, signings aren't going to come really fast what do people expect, just let Malky get on with it :malky:

I'm surprised we have not got more in, as we had a head start by getting promotion so early.
But MM knows what he is doing and quality is important, not just signing players for the sake of it.
We already have a decent squad and a few good additions will see us do well imo.

It really all depends on what is going on behind the scenes, I expect a few rabbits out of hats yet, we took our time last season but Malky knew he could afford to wait as most of our players were of Championship quality, we won't get away with that this time, given the choice between panic buys to appease the nervous or waiting a few more weeks to get the right players, I'm happy to wait. I think we need to remember we are regarded as relegation fodder and therefore not very attractive, a lot of hard sell required.

I fully agree and every other season I can think of its been the same with the bulk of the transfer activity happening just before the big kick off or in the weeks up until the end of August. Think of last season when had a delay in Kim Bo's transfer do to a number of things (Olympics/International Clearance) but he eventually signed and played a significant part in our promotion. It is unlikely his impact would have been even greater if we had signed him 2 weeks earlier.

Unless we are going to sign players no-one else wants or only Championship clubs or below are interested in then I'm afraid we are stuck when it comes to bringing in players of a higher calibre because the selling club probably has its own targets before releasing.

Today is the 16 July the window closes 31 August that's 46 days or 6 weeks 4 days. That is plenty of time.

it,s hard to attract the better player in your first season in the prem.i would say top draw championship players who can make the step up and either older prem lads or relatively unproven prem youngsters are your realistic targets.plus any overseas gems malky can pull out the hat.in 2002 blues struggled a bit to add loads of quality.in the jan window we got duggary and matty upson in.the season after as we had stayed up fairly comfortably david dunn arrived.the year after hesky arrived.good players get put off when there are relegation clauses in their contracts.they don,t always want to fight the drop battle .plenty of time yet though.remember the better the player the easier he,ll fit in as he.ll know the game and what,s expected of him

Good points. Yes of course the more established you are the greater your chances are of attracting the better players. There is a lot to be learnt from the way teams like Birmingham have done their business in the past, although we shouldn't follow the win the League Cup and get relegated trick ;)

'It's only July is bollock talk'

Players gone off to Switzerland a chance to get some fitness and gel a bit, MM has f**ked up in the window so far hugely.

Read the posts above & try to understand. Most of the points are valid - it's difficult to attract big players in your first season in the prem as the 3 teams are automatically favourites to be relegated - pointless buying players no better than we have - not buying players for the sake of it - nobody knows what's going on behind the scenes even some idiots on here with their crystal balls.
Yes I'd love to get a couple in sooner rather than later but it doesn't always work like that
Malky is our manager, he's done a brilliant job so far, so chill out & trust him. Plenty of time. Too many people panicking on here.

Plenty time left. Most players shouldn't need much time to gel, players from overseas maybe need a little longer to settle.

These are grown men on more in a week than many any earn in a year, they should be fit and ready to hit the ground running.

If in 4 weeks there has been nobody else in, then it's time to worry about the impending start of the season but while there is 4 weeks to go nobody should be overly bothered. I'd rather Malky took his time and got the right players in as opposed to signing shite like Hull & Palace.

There is plenty of time left agreed but time is running out at a plentiful rate so the question is when does it stop being PLENTY OF TIME?????? it is about our future we need to lay strong foundations now as the excuses will start "we could not get players", "we tried to buy the best" blah blah blah need depth i feel our attacking options are ok only need a wide player woulda loved to see Wanyama as he would have helped us defensivly as well and we wouldnt have needed as much defensive cover but now we need to start getting players fast to strengthen and not try to get the leftovers. How about leaning on ale friend Moyes and Rodgers and get some loanees then Malk.......PLEASE!!! (Welbeck, Sterling)

These are the FACTS:

Apart from Waynama, Cornelius and Ince we have no f*cking idea who Malky is talking too.
Waynama im glad we walked away from, Celtic are a despicable Club. Ince, well the way
he didnt even have the balls to tell Malky personally proves hes a boy not a man. Not a Malky
type player after all. Cornelius signed. For all any of us know, right now Malky is tying up a
player or two on the phone. We have doctors over there, there's nothing to say the players
cant have medicals in Switzerland, people can sign contracts with pens just as easily over there
as they can here. There are WEEKS left. It takes one day to get a medical and sign a contract.
For fucks sake put your dummys back in

It's about Quality not quantity but I believe everyone understands that we need strengthening.
We saw last year how NOT to do it with QPR . Malky will gradually bring players into the team but I will say the same as last year in that's its important that we have everyone pulling in the right direction.
