Paul Guy: 'Malky can emulate Alex Ferguson'

Sat Jul 13, 2013 1:31 pm

'Cardiff City boss Malky Mackay can emulate Manchester United FC great Sir Alex Ferguson.'

Cardiff-born Bluebirds director Paul Guy is stepping out of the boardroom to become a fan. Here, he delivers his verdict on the key men who helped shape the club into what it is today.

“Cardiff have one of the best young managers in the country. It was a great decision when Malky Mackay was appointed two years ago.

“Every manager needs a bit of luck along the way, but I genuinely believe he could become the next Sir Alex Ferguson.

“That, of course, can only be judged when we look back in 20 years or more, but I am convinced he has that level of ability.

“The key now is for City to stick with him and give Malky the time he needs.

“I am confident that Malky, if he is left to his own devices and has the financial backing, will keep the club moving forward at the right pace.

“There may be setbacks at times, but they happen and it’s crucial to the future of our club that having found the right man to be manager we stick with him.

“The key for me is that Malky knows better than anybody what he must do and has to be allowed to get on with it.

“His judgement so far, particularly on players, has been fantastic.

“Money must be used wisely to assemble a quality squad and Malky has been superb in the way he has strengthened with new players. Leave him unfettered and he will be a hugely successful manager for Cardiff City.

“If they were my pound notes I would want to have a firm say and Vincent Tan will want to know what is happening to his money, but, from what I have seen, things are transparent between the two men. They are in contact all the time and Malky makes sure Vincent has all the information at every step of the way.

“Without Vincent, Cardiff would not be in the Premier, while Malky’s track record is outstanding and the prospects are looking good.

“Promotion to the Premier League was a long time coming, but nothing ever seems to be straightforward for Cardiff. We had been knocking on the door for years.

“When we went to the play-off final against Blackpool I genuinely felt we would win that day. It was the worst feeling I have ever had when Cardiff missed out.

“We’ve been close and not quite made it. My view is that if Malky had been here, it would have been a totally different set-up. We would have done it earlier.

“We were always a bit flaky with Dave, while Malky has brought in a totally different mentality into the club and, in terms of focus and intensity, a different type of player.

“It was clear last season Cardiff were on their way, in particular from January onwards.

“City were top of the Championship from November until the end of the season. What an unbelievable achievement, coming through that pressure to win the title. Malky and his players totally deserved it.”

I'm a Malky fan but even I don't expect him to win 13 Premier League titles, 5 FA Cups, 4 League Cups, 2 Champions Leagues, 1 Cup Winners Cup, 1 FIFA Club World Cup, 1 UEFA Super Cup, 1 Inter-Continental Cup and finally 10 Community Shields within the next 26 years.

30 years may be but not 26 ;)

Paul Guy the CCFC fan? Give us a break. A true fan would not shaft the club like he did with the land deals around the ccs. Borley is a true fan. Guy is a parasite out for his own ends. Where was in the 80s? Watching his pal hall playing peanut hugging probably
