D-Day for Cardiff's bid for main target Ince

Fri Jul 12, 2013 6:30 am

Cardiff City will find out today if main target Tom Ince will join them, manager Malky Mackay has confirmed.

The Bluebirds have had an £8m bid accepted by Blackpool and have also agreed personal terms with the 21-year-old.

Ince and his father, the former Manchester United and England midfielder Paul, who is also his son’s manager at Blackpool, both travelled to Cardiff to meet Mackay on Monday.

The England Under-21 international is now back training with the Seasiders and Mackay expects to hear this morning if he will be joining the Bluebirds for their Premier League challenge.

“Monday was the earliest Tom and his dad could come down,” said Mackay.

“We had a chat, a cup of tea and a biscuit and a look about the place. It was a very amicable and friendly chat.

“He asked me a lot of questions about what was going on here and how I saw his career moving forward.

“He was very impressed by the stadium, the training ground the city of Cardiff in general and our plans for the club moving forward.

“The ball is in their court and on Friday morning we will have a decision one way or the other.

“It’s now just about him deciding whether or not he wants to come down here.

“It’s not an ultimatum as such it was just the way the situation panned out.

“We’ve had a clear timescale on it, it’s not a case of deadlines being extended.

“If he wants to join us that’s great, but if he doesn’t then it’s time for us to move onto other targets.”

So far, as he prepares for Cardiff’s first top flight campaign in more than half a century, Mackay has made just one signing, the club record £8.5m capture of young marksman, Andreas Cornelius from FC Copenhagen.

The Bluebirds fly out for a training camp on the shores of Lake Geneva next week before a clutch of friendlies and their Premier League opener at West Ham on August 17.

Mackay said he was working flat out on bringing new faces in, but urged patience when it came to ensuring the right signings were made.

“You’ve got 10 plates spinning at once,” said Mackay.

“We’ve got various plans in place and we are talking to a lot of people.

“There’s different players at different stages with us at the moment.

“It would be ideal if everyone came in to go on the pre-season trip, but invariably that is not the case.

“These things do not always come when you want and sometimes you have to be patient.

“You have to let things take their course if you want that player.

“You are always in competition and you are always trying to get in there ahead of others.

“There are a lot of factors to deal with, it’s about planning and preparing – and then when we do invest it has to be the right player for this club.

“We have made one good addition to the squad but we need more players, and we are under no illusions about that.”

I honestly think Ince would prove worth every penny but at the end of the day its £8m and if he decides not
to sign then im pretty sure there may be players that are as good, if not better on the European market that
are cheaper too. If its a no from the lad you can bet its a lot to do with his new born kid and missus. So we
wont actually be missing out, because his head would not be right. But if it IS a yes, i reckon we will be
getting a focused determined individual
