Why Cardiff City should pull the plug on signing Tom Ince

Thu Jul 11, 2013 1:03 pm

Cardiff City have agreed a deal with Blackpool for Tom Ince, but the players is still dallying over whether to join the Premier League newcomers.

That concerns me.

Moving from the Championship to the top division shouldn’t be a hard decision, but Ince’s delay suggests that he’s waiting for an offer from a club higher-up the league, or that he believes that he can ‘do better’ than Cardiff.

If I’m Malky Mackay, I don’t want that kind of player, especially not when Ince is going to cost £8m; Cardiff need players who want to play for Cardiff, not those who seemingly believe that the club is a bit beneath them.

A decision is due tomorrow, so within twenty-fours there will be some clarity to this situation, but this whole episode reminds me a little bit of Lee Bowyer’s proposed move to Liverpool all those years ago – remember, when he hesitated to the point where Liverpool weren’t convinced of his desire to play for them?

There’s a lot of assumptions at work here, I accept that, but Ince should be jumping at the chance to play for Cardiff, and he should have bitten their hand off for giving him this opportunity – spending this kind of money on someone who hasn’t played a minute of top-flight football is a big leap of faith.

Same with United and Zaha then?

And no player really wants to play for City

You telling me Fraizer and Nicky dreamt of moves to us? No, just offered a lot of money and it's their job.

The lad is a highly rated British talent and has potential to go far.

I understand why he is putting us on hold.
