Aron Gunnarsson at RB ?

Thu Jul 11, 2013 12:16 pm

Do you think he could be utilized at RB this year ? With all this talk of bringing in another CDM player. We are short of cover at right back which we could easily fill with gunnar. We can also then bring in a younger and inexperienced player for the future such as mendy or alternatives.
He also has a number of traits which would favor him in this position :
- Long Throw
-Decent Pace
- Loves a tackle
- Likes to get Forward but also likes to defend
Opinions ? :ayatollah: :malky: :malky:

He as the ability to play there, however I am not sure if he has enough pace to mark players like Walcott and Bale out of the game? I may be wrong, but I'd rather see Super Kev at RB :ayatollah:

I agree but we need this position filled I'm sorry, we can't have players being versatile in defensive positions, we need players who are in that position, it holds back a players progress

He could probably play there but what I Bleed Blue said is right. Gunnarson is better at CDM and we'd be wasting his ability to play there. We defiantly need a quality right back because Kev and Connolly wont cut it imo.

Agree with most of what's been posted.

However, only problem for Gunnar is that we'll have better midfielders than him in that position.
He'll be left on the bench. At least playing at LB will give us the option of utilising his throw-ins.

food for thought.

What a load of crap.

Gunnarsson likes his position and MM knows how to play him and bring the best out of him.

We will slam Ben Turner up front for aerial threat while we are here.

Do you seriously think that Kev will mark Walcott and Bale out of a game

A right back should be top of our transfer list.

RIght back
Left back
Definsive midfielder
Centre back
Winger

I think that should do it

No! Need him in the engine room!!

Top priority should be a right back no doubt.

Gunnar actually filled in as an emergency right back in a game last season and although we got away with it he never looked comfortable. This isn't a criticism in any way whatsoever on Gunnar as he is naturally a midfielder. So a definite No from me.

Does anyone think Gunnar will get into the side?
Too many players infront of him already. Let alone if we sign another Wanyama or Barry.

No-one is ahead of him in the CDM position.

Dont understand how this is funny ? If we were to bring in a dominating midfielder I think that would push gunnar out of the starting 11 ? If we were to bring in a RB fair enough but gunnarsson could easily be used as a RB in the prem

Back 4

2 wingers (Bellers / Noone)

2 forwards (Cornileous / Maynard)

Midfield of Mutch and Kimbo.

....and there's your starting XI. With no Gunnar.
So if we were looking at players the ilk of Wanyama, then it goes to reason that both him and Mutch would start before Gunnar.
Agree with Cardiff_Lad that Gunnars passion, tackling, work ethic, engine and long throw would be of use next season. But where does he play? RB seems a reasonable solution without the pisstake from some.

I doubt we'll be playing a flat 4 man midfield. We'd be dominated quite easily.
