Southampton launch fresh bid for Wanyama

Mon Jul 08, 2013 9:26 am

Cardiff look to have missed out on target Victor Wanyama after Southampton made a renewed bid for the Kenyan.

Celtic boss Neil Lennon has confirmed that Southampton have launched a fresh bid to sign the midfielder, who they had looked set to snap up for £12million earlier in the summer, when the Hoops accepted an offer for his signature.
Wanyama failed to agree terms with the Saints last month and it then looked like Cardiff boss Malcky Mackay would move in to snap him up.
But that has failed to materialise and Lennon has revealed that Southampton have returned with another bid to take the player to St Mary's.
Speaking after Saturday's 2-1 friendly defeat by Cluj, Lennon said: "I had a chat with Victor and he's a wee bit confused but what we gather is that Southampton have re-ignited their interest.
"They've shown an interest again and the bid is there. It's all about the negotiations between Saints and the agent now. I'd imagine that might get the ball rolling again.
"I've only seen Victor for a couple of days but he trained with the rest of the squad who didn't play against Cluj.
"If nothing materialises, he'll play some of the [friendly] game on Tuesday against Greuther Furth."

Nice try Neil.

"I had a chat with Victor and he's a wee bit confused but what we gather is that Southampton have re-ignited their interest.

If you spoke to him Neil surely you KNOW negotiations are back on or not? "what we gather" is a great throw away line that cannot come back to bite you in the arse.

all looking a bit messy.

From the outside, it seems we have cooled our interest and the player isnt fussed on Southampton, looks like Celtic may have to relent, cant see Everton paying 12m somehow.
