A forum for all things Cardiff City

This is very positive in my eyes, Ledley earlier said Wanyama should stay at Celtic, but he seems he has changed his mind, not doing Lennon a favour since MM distanced himself from a move is he????
Daily Record
JOE LEDLEY knew Victor Wanyama was a special talent the minute he clapped eyes on him.
That’s why the Celtic midfielder is amazed Premier League big guns can’t see it too.
The Welshman is now resigned to losing his Hoops team-mate this summer after both Southampton and Ledley’s old club, Cardiff City, made huge bids for him.
The Welsh outfit have since walked away leaving Saints as frontrunners but Ledley, can’t believe the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal or Spurs haven’t made a move for the Kenyan.
In face, he insists Wanyama should be playing in the Champions League every season and believes he’d walk into any of England’s top clubs.
The 26-year-old feels Celtic pulled off one of their best-ever bargains when they plucked the midfield ace from Belgian club Beerschot for just £900,000 two years ago.
He says it’s been a pleasure to feature alongside Wanyama – but knows he’s ready to play at the very highest level.
Speaking from Celtic’s training base in Germany Ledley said: “The Celtic fans know how good Victor is and realise we got him at a steal.
“He’s been great but it looks like he’ll continue his career somewhere else now.
“I knew straight away we had a special player on our hands and now he might break the Scottish transfer record if he goes.
“You could see how mature he was for his age and how composed on the ball he was. Nothing fazes him.
“He can play for a top team in the Premier League, easily. He’s got great potential and if he can get to a top club it would be fantastic to go up against him in the Champions League in the future.
“Anyone who saw him in that competition last year will know how good he is.
“There will be pressure on Victor going down there, especially with the price tag. But it will be a stroll in the park for him as it will suit the way he plays.
“I’m surprised none of the top clubs have come in for him but it’s early days in the transfer window.”
Cardiff have reportedly cooled their interest in Wanyama after having a £10million bid turned down last week.
As a team-mate, Ledley is loathe to see the Kenyan leave but as a fan of the Welsh club he would love to see his pal play for the Premier League’s new boys.
He said: “If Victor goes it will be a massive blow to us. He was terrific in the Champions League for us last season. The way Cardiff play would suit him as he could be their midfield holding player. He would be a fantastic signing for them.
“They are nowhere near as big as Celtic but it’s the capital of Wales and they’re getting more recognition now they are in the Premier League.
“If Victor went there he’d enjoy it. I have friends who are fans and they’ve seen him when they’re up watching me at Celtic. I know they were excited about the prospect of him going there.”
Celtic gaffer Neil Lennon insists if the club do get over £10m for Wanyama he’ll use some of the money to try and tie up key men like Ledley on long-term deals.
The Welsh international only has a year left on his Parkhead contract but revealed he’d be willing to speak to his manager about extending his stay.
He also insists it’s vital the Celtic board back Lennon in his bid to keep the likes of Georgios Samaras, Anthony Stokes and Kelvin Wilson.
He said: “If things continue to go well I hope to sit down with my agent and the club and sort something out. A lot of the boys have been linked with moves and it doesn’t surprise me but it’s vital we keep this team together.
“We had a fantastic season last year so obviously people will go. But it’s important we keep most of our big players.
“If we get to the Champions League this is the place to be. I know the Premier League is one of the best in the world but I’m enjoying my football at Celtic.”
Ledley endured one of his toughest seasons in football last year, playing in almost 50 games for club and country.
He was given a rest by Lennon prior to the Scottish Cup Final in May and the midfield stalwart is adamant the gamble paid off.
He also insists the break will do him the world of good going into the next campaign which he hopes can be just as successful as the previous one.
He said: “It was difficult last year and at times I did feel like I was running on empty.
“When a few of us went on holiday, some people questioned it and asked if we could switch it back on again at Hampden, but we knew we could.
“Had we lost the Cup Final we’d have taken a bit of stick so the onus was on us to show the manager was right. It was a risk to take but it was worth it.”

Went to watch Joe in the Scottish cup final then went back to Celtic park, I understand why he wants to play for them the facilities are top class and he is treated like a god. The atmosphere in the final was one of the best over ever experienced!

Its true, right now, that Celtic are a bigger club than Cardiff City.
But the goldfish bowl that is the SPL is growing ever smaller. TV money, TV interest is on the wane. Without TV money
both Celtic and Rangers will continue to go backwards. With no hope of ever joining the English League.....
In a few years those big old grounds will just be huge Mortuarys

Most of the big clubs have been in their respective top divisions for donkeys years. Imagine if any club had to endure what Cardiff have had to in the past 50 years - then it would take a huge toll on those so-called bigger clubs. Now I firmly believe capital city can be huge. A massive area with a a huge fan base and partisan fans. Cardiff are building the blocks to be a Celtic within 10 -15 years - as long as we stay in the PL - that's the key!
