New players v rebrand

Fri Jul 05, 2013 8:02 pm

If the club is unsettled and the fans are unhappy with certain elements of, kit colour and badge.

Do you think it makes players think twice about coming here?

Do you think that the players think its a bit of a circus?

Is it affecting the transfers or is it making no difference at all?

I doubt its making a difference at all. At this level of the game the fans dont mean anything to the players. Its all about the money and whether you can offer european football.

Our club is "unsettled" though! Would you not agree?

I would think twice about making one of the biggest moves in my career to an unsettled club.

Well it's only the fans who are unhappy, the club itself is fine (other than the obvious debt)

With most players recruited for the first team now being foreign it would be highly doubtful that it makes any difference to them at all when deciding to come or not.

I don't say this as a xenophobic comment, far from it. Having been living away from Cardiff & abroad for 4 years now (firstly in Helsinki, Rio and now Mumbai) I can see that our club politics and fan 'demonstrations and complaints' are so little and insignificant in relation to what happens elsewhere that the players would likely think any noise coming out of the stands shouting for blue and not red is a traditional tune about some other team.

In Scandinavia teams are quite regularly renamed by sponsors, relocated, rebranded and other things to the point where fans just disregard the names and move on (more so in Finland & Norway). It is no wonder that in relation, Cornelius thinks us very traditional.

In Brazil, you have probably seen, change anything, sell a player, buy a player nobody likes, change an away shirt colour etc. it is mayhem and an almost full ticket boycott with bonfires in the stadium car park whilke the game goes on unattended. In Argentina, the same with added murder and 'woundings' (I'm not suggesting we go follow suit).

I could make a case about the Indian cricket teams, the corruption, the riots, the 'franchising' and name changes but the above points are good enough.

All in all I think blaming players for not caring because of the money is short sighted and convenient, players from elsewhere will have a different experience and expectation (unless German) and value system attached to their football traditions. Look at where Kimbo is from and you will see clubs named after a different car company with different colours from week to week.

If change is what we want, writing threads trying to attach (admittedly large) player salaries to the equation does nobody any favours and gets us nowhere nearer being blue again. The players will not change this, it seems unlikely the present ownership will without heavy persuasion which leaves us.

I Disagree,

The fans are unsettled, but Malky won't be no different in his approach to anything, why would he.

Listen, the re-brand had divided the fans but this should not reflect what the management and coaching staff are doing at the club. The club as in my previous post is in the best position ever, not just on a financial point of view but everything else. This club is new, this club is finally waking up after 51 years being away from English footballs elite clubs and people including players are curious as to what we bring to the offering plate.

When a clubs manager is shown to promote youth, every agent and player in the world looks at it more closely. Not just for how the player develops, but also that if a quality young player is frustrated at another club, they look to Malky and Cardiff City and the promise of elite football regardless of age. Very much the same as people do at Arsenal and have done so for 10-15 years, look at Henry.

That's why Wenger for all his bad points is exceptional for bringing Europe's best youth players to the Emirates, he don't have to look hard, the package and promise is already known and the sell is an easy one.

I think if a player is sold the right club, the right attitude and the right method of playing, any player will join the club who's manager sells the best package to the player, not just about money.

And for Malky to do it to one of Europe's best young talents in Cornelius, I think Ince and a few others are already in the bag.

Would you think twice about £32k p/w?

Not a blind bit of difference!

Hardly any players outside of Ccfc even know the fans are 50/50 with the rebrand!
According to anyone outside looking in, everything is hunkydory, there's plenty of money and a great club! ;)

Not at all. In Wales there is a bit of a stink over the rebrand, Bluebirds Unite are making headway and fighting the good fight but do you honestly think Cornelius, Waynama, Mendy, Ince or anyone else thinks "oh Cardiff City are a Club in turmoil, the fans are at each others throats, its like a civil war down there" - get real mate. Nobody else knows, nobody else cares

Exactly , when people say if they don't want to play for the badge they can f**k off makes me laugh. Very rare you'd get a player who actually comes just for the badge. It's all about the ££££££££

No, even though the club is a bit of a circus, with half the fans hating the other half due to the ridiculous colour changing of the teams 100 year history in blue, I think you'll find, players don't give two hoots which club they play for, they don't care about the club, they don't care about the fans, but they do care who offers them the most Wonga !!! :ayatollah: :old: :ayatollah:
