A forum for all things Cardiff City

I am a huge fan of Peter "Magic Hat" Whittingham and cannot really understand why he was allowed to drop to the bench for the run in. With all the talk of Wanayama, Ince, Cattermole etc is Whittingham still going to fit in? I am quite sure he is a quality player and will grace the Premier League but will it be with Cardiff City?

Because Kim Gunners and Mutch were in better form. Dont worry he will start next season

He'll still be playing for us this season, in a more advanced role if Wanyama signs (fingers crossed)

We played with a serious amount of freedom when Whittingham was dropped

Whits was playing in a 2 man centre mid and we were getting overrun. Once we switched to 3 we started playing much better, but whits had been dropped for Kim. I think whits would have played better than he had been had he kept his place, but fair play Kim took his chance

The squad needed freshening up, Lets not forget that players are humans like us too not robots. Whittingham has hardly missed a League game for us so he needed a rest rather than 'dropping' him. He'll be back at his best next season

Him and Kim both play the same position. Kim is a lot better than WHITTS. IMO. Think Whitts will be a bench player

Sadly he keeps Whittingham back in CDM but gives Mutch and KIM roles in CM which is slightly confusing and one of his weak tactics.
Whittingham does a great job but was tired. He pulls all the strings.

Its because both Kim and Mutch have better movement that Whitts, more pace. I agree Whitts shouldnt be that deep, however, if we get Wanayama he has the pace and power to allow Whitts to get forward more.

Personally I've never been a fan of whittingham, decent passer same as most top level footballers and great free kicks etc but too slow on the ball and not enough go in him for me, not quick enough and not got enough bite to him, if Peter whittingham had Joey bartons bite and tenacity he would be one hell of a player but to laxy dazey and sluggish for me and I've always thought the same

Spot on.
Some fans on here are fickle. I remember after Bristol and Brighton away there was fans on here ranting about MM and how deep he plays Whittingham and MM came out against Wolves and played him in a attacking role. Scored a hat trick and was spreading brilliant balls to Noone who I remember rightly had a cracker of a debut.

whitts will be an important player for us this season, but we need a squad, and personally i think in Mutch Gunnersson Kimbo and Whitts, we have 4 very goot Midfielders. Wanyama to complete the set for me!

My mate's an Evertonian and a former semi - pro footballer. He watched quite a few games of Cardiff last year and he does not think Whittingham will be good enough for the premier league. Personally, I think he's probably right. I hope we sign Wanyama as he would add real steel and vision to the midfield! Midfield is crucial and with players like Wanyama we have a lesser chance of being out muscled and over run - I can't say the same with Whitts in the side I'm afraid.
