Normally caused by dry joints on the board , find someone with a solder iron and fix it yourself or any competant sparky it will be easy enough to spot . Mainly happens when people do not turn it off at the wall and leave it on standby for too long

Shops charge a fortune to fix a routine problem which takes them minutes .

The original version of the xbox does have a fair few problems with red rings. How many you got? There is a temporary fix with cooling it down in certain ways etc. but they only last a few weeks

They advise to unplug every lead and leave it for 2 hours before plugging back in and using a surge protected socket before powering up . 3 rings is a technical issue ie software maybe hasn't upgraded properly and is easily fixable . 4 rings is a bigger problem ie internal overheating , if its a solder problem make sure you use lead free solder to fix it .

Hardware issues can cause software issues. The data has to go somewhere. If it cant read/write or modify data there is a good chance of an error. Could be the RAM. I'd put money on it being related to the RAM/CPU/GPU/PSU or a solder joint.

Well after unplugging all last night, I came through this morning and plugged it all back together, wrapped the console in a towel and switched the mains on.
The battery pack was orange (led) but the console had no power.
About an hour and half later the battery pack was green and the console powered on.
So I have disconnected it all and repositioned it away from my sky box (where it was last time) and it now stands alone and appears to be working fine...
Long may it continue.
