' Malky confirms Cardozo interest '

Mon Jul 01, 2013 1:48 pm

01st July 2013.

Cardiff City manager Malky Mackay has admitted to being an admirer of Benfica's in-demand frontman Oscar Cardozo.

The Paraguay international boasts a remarkable scoring record in the Portuguese top flight and has been linked with a move to pastures new for some time.

Manchester City were reported to be leading the chase for his signature this summer, with new Blues boss Manuel Pellegrini in the hunt for attacking talent after losing Carlos Tevez to Juventus.

Man City have yet to put a deal in place, though, meaning other clubs are free to join the chase.

Cardiff could be about to test the water with an official approach, as they continue with their efforts to piece together a squad that can compete at a Premier League level.

Mackay is actively scouring the market for suitable recruits and has conceded that Cardozo - a man who netted 33 times in 46 appearances last season - would be of interest to him.

He told Portuguese newspaper Record: "I know all about the attributes of Cardozo. I know exactly how he plays.

"I think he would suit our game and would be interesting for us."

Unreal that we are taking a serious look at him.

Living in dreamland!!

I remember signing Steve White from Hereford and getting excited because he'd banged a load of goals in for hereford the season before

Mental isn't it? I remember I could hardly hold back the tears the day Kav left, I felt like the club was disintegrating before my eyes. 8 years on and look at us now. Amazing.

If it is true then fairplay to MM.

I doubt we would ever get him.

Can't fault MM's optimism :ayatollah: .

Got to agree, can't see us signing him at all but the fact that Malky is willing to look at these sort of players is hugely impressive.

Just had a bit of a wild tip from a mate down the city who is convinced Cardozo will sign for us. Anyone know where I can put a bet on him joining us? Bit of a mad one but worth a £20 punt.

MM has obviously planned it all that how much he could cost etc but I doubt Cardozo would choose us.

Nice to hear MM looking around. Not many clubs have shown interest in Cardozo for a while.

If we get him it would be a miracle, but it always nice to linked with big players, it gives the club more publicity around europe!

If the Malky quote is genuine, then we may have to brace ourselves for the transfer coup of the summer!!

do you think Malky would pay 13mil(roughly) for a 30year old? i hope so as Cardozos goalscoring record is unbelievable and it will be worth it if his goals keeps us up :ayatollah:

He will add experience to our front line, and that experience will get picked up by Andreas then.

If we pull this off, like CityGent has said, it would be one of the transfer coups of the season.

As unbelievable as it seems, i can't see us making a bid for him on a whim. There would have been weeks maybe months of background work preparing a bid of this magnitude. As the above post says, he'd add huge experience to the forward line. He's a world class finisher. Unlikely, yes. Impossible? Lets wait and see!

Exactly.

Like citygent has mentioned its not impossible, but very unlikely, even to be linked with this sort of player, shows that we mean business. :ayatollah:

Manchester City are expected to go head to head with Premier League new-boys Cardiff City for the signature of Benfica hitman, Oscar Cardozo. However, Cardiff will need to cough up at least £15 million if they are to secure the services of the prolific goal-scorer, who was a vital cog in Benfica’s attack force throughout the course of last season.

Man City have been swift in their attempts to add a goal-poacher to their attacking ranks as after the departure of Carlos Tevez to Juventus, the Citizens are short of numbers in attack with just Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko remaining at the Etihad.

Cardozo is odds on to leave his club during the summer transfer window as his public-fallout with his eccentric manager, Jorge Jesus is well-chronicled. However, at 30-years of age, the Paraguay International’s mooted transfer fee and his huge wage-demands could scupper any potential move for the lethal goal-poacher, as he is highly unlikely to command any resale value in the near future.

However, City for a change have been reported to be thinking that they will not be held to ransom over any move for a striker as they have been linked with Sevilla’s Spanish goal-machine Alvaro Negredo, Bayern Munich target-man Mario Gomez, Brazil’s Confederations Cup hero Fred, Roma’s Pablo Osvaldo and last but not the least Cardozo.

I really can't see him coming to us. He's a champion leagues player tbh.
