CORNELIUS CONFIRMED ON A 5 YEAR CONTRACT

:ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Cardiff City Football Club can today confirm that Danish international striker Andreas Cornelius' transfer from FC Copenhagen has been finalised subject to Premier League ratification and international clearance, Andreas signing a five year deal in the Welsh capital.

The 20 year-old completed his medical on Monday morning at the Club's Vale of Glamorgan training base and will link up with his new team-mates on a permanent basis in a week's time following a short vacation.

Cardiff City FC Head of Recruitment Iain Moody said of today's breaking news: "We would like to thank Carsten Jensen and all the staff at FC Copenhagen for both the good relations that have been built between the two clubs over the past couple of weeks and the professionalism they have shown in working with us to complete this transfer."

Cornelius becomes Malky Mackay’s first recruit of the summer ahead of City’s Premier League debut against West Ham United on August 17th.

And, naturally, the 20 year old was evidently buoyant on completion of his medical and the breaking of the hotly anticipated news.

“This is a dream come true for me,” Andreas exclusively told Cardiff City Player. “I’ve been given a great opportunity and this is a very exciting project that’s taking place at Cardiff City. I’m very happy to be here and to be playing for this Club in the Premier League.

“There were opportunities for me this summer and I had to think about what was the right thing to do, the correct step for me to take in terms of my career. I was impressed by what the Club is trying to do, the fact it has reached the Premier League and that it has a passionate fan base supporting it.”

The 6”4 inch striker top-scored in the Superliga during the 2012/13 season with 18 goals, unsurprisingly being recognised by the senior Denmark setup and scoring his first goal for his country in the 2014 World Cup Qualifier against Czech Republic back in March that the former European Champions won 3-0.

And in reference to his international ambitions, Andreas noted that it was Cardiff City with whom he felt he could best establish himself ahead of the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

“The Danish national team always wants players playing in foreign countries, especially in the English Premier League,” he stated. “If I can improve as a player at Cardiff City, which I think I can, then I can be a better player for the Danish national squad as well.”

Already a success on the field, goal-scorer Andreas completed his medical in Cardiff on Monday having last week secured academic success.

He noted: “It’s been a busy few days as I graduated from University back home over the weekend. Both school and football are very important to me, so I had to structure my plans in order to achieve in both.

“I will link up with my new team-mates next Monday and look forward to preparing for the new season. These are very exciting times and I’m looking forward to working with the manager and learning more about this squad.”

Cardiff City have completed the signing of Cornelius

Mon Jul 01, 2013 2:09 pm

LONDON (Reuters) - Cardiff City have completed the signing of Denmark international striker Andreas Cornelius from FC Copenhagen on a five-year deal, the promoted Premier League club said on Monday.

Cardiff said the 20-year-old, their first recruit ahead of City's Premier League debut in August, had a medical on Monday and would join his new team mates next week after a short vacation.

No transfer fee was given but media reports said it was around 8 million pounds.

"The Danish national team always wants players playing in foreign countries, especially in the English Premier League," Cornelius told the club website (www.cardiffcity.co.uk).

"If I can improve as a player at Cardiff City, which I think I can, then I can be a better player for the Danish national squad as well."

Cornelius was the top scorer in the Danish Superliga last season, scoring 18 goals in 32 appearances in his first full campaign in the top flight. He also graduated from university last weekend.

I am sure he has bags of potential but I am not overwhelmed. Is the Danish league any better than the Championship? I hope people are patient if the lad struggles to adjust when he starts. I hope we also buy someone with experience up front as well.

Cardiff City have completed the signing of Denmark striker Andreas Cornelius from FC Copenhagen.

The 20-year-old had previously been linked with a host of clubs, including Everton and Stoke City.

"This is a dream come true for me. I've been given a great opportunity and this is a very exciting project that's taking place at Cardiff City. I'm very happy to be here and to be playing for this Club in the Premier League," he told the club's official website.

Cardiff's transfer news has been the most exciting out of all the teams in every league this season in my opinion. People actually don't understand how good Andreas Cornelius is either. He is a fantastic player but just because he isn't known well in Britain, people instantly knock him.

Ince will be formidable for Cardiff this season. He needs this move and us fans want his move. I would bet my house on the fact that Cardiff WONT get relegated this season. We are one of the favourites but I can ensure you. We will not get relegated. Please print screen this comment so I can prove you right come the end of the season.

Also, with Victor Wanyama and Oscar Cardozo being linked with Cardiff too, we will no longer be one of the favourites for the drop. Look at Swansea. They have a team full of midfielders and defenders. They have stayed up in the Premiership for the past 2 years by just relying on Michu.
