A forum for all things Cardiff City

I keeping hearing from rival fans that we'll be 'doing a QPR' this season.
Let's look in a bit more detail as to what 'doing a QPR' means. QPR brought in 18 players last season, basically a whole new squad, spending £38.45m. Many of those were also aledgeally paid very hansomely. This spending did not stop them going down.
Here's an interesting comparison for everyone:-
The differnece in spending between QPR and Southampton last season was just £5.75m (it's actually less as the Ross Flitney transfer was undesclosed). Southampton brought in 10 players.
As far as i'm aware Southampton pay the going rate in terms of wages, with no strict wage structure.
So, doing a QPR is spending £30m on transfers, bringing in a new squad who get paid very well but ultimately get relegated. Doing a Southampton is spending £30m on transfers, paying the going rate for wages and staying up.
- Is Malky going to spend £30m - Most likley
- Is Malky going to bring in 10-18 players and replace the whole squad - Certainly not. We already know that Malky plans on letting many of the existing squad have a crack next season. He will bring in 5/6 quality players to enhance the existing squad.
- Is Malky going to offer average players £80k a week - Cetainly not.

Very interesting post, i would assume malky would bring in 6-8 players to keep the squad unity and just to improve on the existing squad wher i think 5/6 players we have already are good enough to start against west ham. Why 'Do a QpR' and bring in 18 players the wage bill wud be MAHOOSiV

We are not spending above our means either, we will get money from TV, PL etc for promotion, it's certainly not a QPR

The people who call the shots for us seem alot more level headed and cautious, so we shouldnt have the same problem as qpr

This is the last time I post on my iphone- bloody spelling/typos galore in that
I need a bigger phone for my sausage fingers.

Plus this promotion means a hell of alot more to us than it did to them, our city needed it big time. Watch Cardiff develop even more, ecspecially if we stay up

So how much coin do promoted teams get this yr compared to last year with the increase in tv money?

Only the ignorant ones say Cardiff City will do a QPR.

The change in manager's and back room staff played the biggest part in QPR's relegation Imo.
every one at city seems to be pulling in the right direction which gives us a better chance of success in the premier.

Very good post.
We are obviously going for fewer players but high impact players. It's a great policy as it means the consistency of the team spirit and current working group can be maintained rather than bringing in shed loads of players and the possible ramifications in the dressing room and in training etc.

Missed top England international Jay Bothroyd off that QPR list

I don't believe for a second we will do a QPR next season but there is no way it is a 'FACT' that Southampton paid £2.5m for Gazzaniga, a League 2 goalkeeper whom they sent a young goalkeeper on loan (Tommy Forecast) for the season in return as well.

Great post.
Money aside I would say the biggest difference will be that Malky will have a team as opposed to a collection of players.

If you spend 28 m on 3 players in your first transfet window you will blow away anything qpr did. That qpr fig above includes the amount they spent in jan on remmy samba etc when they were desperate. By the time you add in defenders feck knows how much you will end up spending. the biggest problem at qpr was the gulf in wages between the likes of hill derry and the new lads. They also didnt have relegation clauses. Surely not even you lot are that reckless.

Good post Gonzo.
Using Sourhampton is very comparible to ourselves. They, like us have a billionaire backing them and they like us have brought in young hungry players who are looking to price themselves in the premier.
QPR happily paid ludicrous wages to the likes of Bosingwa who were happy to do nothing and just collect their money. Malky will ensure this wont happen.

QPR were in a desperate state behind the scenes, we are solid.
We are adding top quality to a team, not throwing in more pre madonnas into a collection of individuals who don't give one.
Our lot know what it took to get here, qpr's team was dismantled and all team spirit evaporated.
