WANYAMA

Can anyone explain how we have agreed terms with Wanyama when he is still under contract with Celtic and is not in the last six months of his contract, I suppose it either means that the agreed terms are bullshit or we have had the bid accepted

As I see it we've come to a verbal agreement with his agent about his salary etc.We would not be able to speak with the player directly as he is still a Celtic player until they give us permission to do so.

As far as I know, legally we are not even allowed to talk to his agent as that would mean we are really tapping up the player, unless as I said one of the two options I quoted

A fee doesnt have to be agreed to discuss terms. Permission needs to be given. Celtic have said he can go so they probably dont mind him talking to clubs, a fee still needs to be agreed though.

If two clubs are close to agreeing a deal, the parent club can still give permission to speak to the players agent

I think informal tapping ups go on all the time. It seems this deal is done and if that's the case, it was concluded long before the press got wind of it. This will be an incredible statement of intent

Some of the comments seem to indicate he is injured? Also liked the celtic fans saying it would be a backward step?!?!

Wanyama is a fine footballer - and he's a pretty good on the keyboards too.

General consensus up here is that we will land him. Spoken to a few Celtic fans who have heard he's coming our way. Fee Is ten million.

Liverpool are interested in him according to few papers

Actually there was a good feature on this in Ridsdale's book which came out a few years ago.

Tapping up is direct contact with the player i.e. MM talking with a player under contract with another club about joining CCFC. Agents apparently fill a gap in the system where MM can employ one agent to talk to another agent who has the ear of the player.

Using this system clubs can gauge whether it is worth submitting a bid. It is also beneficial to the selling club in that they only have to deal with official bids which are genuine and not speculative and therefore less disruptive.

This is why Agents have such an influencing role in football transfers and why so many fees are paid.

It sounds as if terms have basically been agreed via agents regarding wages etc and we are just sorting a fee out with Celtic

I can see a deal happening soon, I know Malky does deals behind doors but there definitely seems so interest for him and it's only a few formalities before a deal is done

This is simple. Nobody knows, its all speculation. Put it this way, how many City fans would be in the least bit surprised if Malky announced the signing of a top foreign defensive midfielder tomorrow for £10m .... and it wasnt Wanyama
