CITY MAKE IMPROVED OFFER FOR WANYAMA

Sat Jun 29, 2013 3:56 am

Cardiff City have stepped up their attempt to pluck Victor Wanyama away from Celtic by making an improved offer for the sought-after midfielder.

Cardiff manager Malky Mackay remains committed to landing the Kenyan international and has raised the stakes after a bid of £10million was rejected by Peter Lawwell on Monday.

Celtic have already accepted a bid of £12m from Southampton last week but the midfielder’s agents, Rob Moore and Ivan Modia, dismissed the terms on offer and accused the Parkhead club of trying to railroad a deal — with relations between the two parties now strained.

Sportsmail understands Cardiff have already reached an informal agreement with Wanyama’s representatives over their cut and the 22-year-old’s wage demands.

Now the Parkhead side must decide whether to grant permission for formal talks to begin — with Cardiff prepared to alter the structure of the payments to make.

Celtic boss Neil Lennon believe the midfielder has already played his final game for the club, saying: ‘My own gut feeling is that a deal will get done somewhere along the line.

‘He is our player. One, we don’t want him to go. Two, if he is going to go then the club has to match our valuation of the player.’

Parkhead skipper Scott Brown believes Wanyama’s departure would leave a major void in the Celtic midfield.

‘Victor would be a huge loss if he went,’ said Brown. ‘He was unbelievable last season. But that’s up to the board, Victor and his agent.’

This is the type of player we need, a real beast. I honestly think if we do pay 12 million in the long run it will be pennies as I think we could sell him on for 20 million. For the big sides to have been looking at him just proves that he's quality. Get Ince now and another defender and things will be looking up, I think our front men will have enough in the tank now. 3 maybe 4 great strikers if bellamy plays upfront instead of out wide, along with Rudy and joe is awesome I think. The midfield, Wanyama and gunnar in the middle. Much kimbo and whitts, noone, conway,.... We have a great side to stay up. So happy being a cardiff fan,

I think Malky and Tan are to be congratulated for attempting to bring in this calibre of player,I mean just look at Palace, creaming themselves at the 2m signing of a championship player.4 or 5 like this guy will see us comfortable next season.

There is no doubt that Wanyama is a very promising young player who made his mark in the Champions League last season. However things don't seem quite right with him joining City. Malky tends to keep his targets close to his chest, yet our apparent interest in Wanyama is clearly in the public domain. Secondly, is a defensive midfield player a priority for MacKay given the form of Gunnarson last season? Maybe he intends playing two holding midfielders to make us difficult to beat. Could it however be simply a smokescreen to deflect the press from his real target? Didn't it appear that he was interested in Gomis but signed Cornelius out of the blue!

4 or 5 like him at £10-12m???? :? :?

Wow! I think we're starting to get ahead of ourselves there...

And to think Tan is still 'Public Enemy No.1' in some eyes ;) :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

I really cannot see Mutch, Conway, Mason and Gestede playing a major role next season. Bench warmers at best.

We should be treating these rumours with a pinch of salt.
These journalists are trying to sell papers and some of these updates on ere are trying to achieve hits for this site.
Have we not learned anything from our latest signing ? :malky:

I have, fella and it is a very valid one. However, and I know we have opposing thoughts on the matter, I am just pointing out that Tan appears to be 'delivering' and some (as above) are still asking for more :ayatollah:

According to the daily fail we have bid 11.5 million.

Think that will be enough?

Nope because the agents want a huge cut of the fee, so Celtic would only recieve about 10.5m

Gestede will be sold, Conway maybe as well. Mason will be a bench warmer and fourth choice striker whereas Mutch will be given game time because he's young, has potential and overall a decent player.

Mutch will play as Malky as high hopes, Conway will be at best backup once/if we sign a winger, Mason will probably go out on loan, same with Gestede

Cardiff City - Administration 0
Swansea City - Administration 1

looks like Swansea have won that one hands down. If Tan does f**k off, we will go into administration. Rest assured if that ever
happens we will be contacting Swansea City for tips on how not to pay creditors. But until that day...glass houses eh?

The Alternative view is that a person with an extremely good business reputation is investing money (as opposed to spending) in the playing side. This investment sees the side reach the top 12, in the first season, making Tan Sri extremely happy and facilitates huge recognition for him personally in Asia.

Tan Sri decides to push on and aims for a top 8 side within 3 years and, following the acquisition of further investors, the club becomes capable of challenging for Europe on a regular basis.

2018..... Malky is still with us. After 5 years in the Premiership the club is financially secure, with no debt, and we are the envy of many clubs.

Yes there is a down side. Because of our success we are constantly on TV and often don't know whether we are playing on a Saturday, Sunday, Monday or Thursday - but that is where I believe we are going...

:laughing6:

What odds do you think you'll get on that?

There are some big, big sides in the premier league who you sinply cannot compete with financially. Tan as you said is a shrewd businessman. With that said, he will not stick around for a project which accumulates debt. This season will be all or bust for you. But spending big is not the way to do it. Like Swansea, or even stoke, you have to find a style which always you to compete.

Spending what you're talking about will see you in admin sooner rather than later.
