Aside from not being Welsh, not being born in Swansea, having very little chance of winning Queens honours, probably less well thought of by Italian fans... Unlikely that he'll have a stand named after him at Leeds, hasn't won several titles in Italy...

I was refering to his football skills rather that being born in a hick town SW of Merthyr.

Oh bloody hell lol,would mean the lad would have to become the greatest player of all time.no pressure then .Malky better get him using hi's right foot for a start.

The late bobby robson described John Charles as " the greatest player ive ever seen" . When you think of some of the players robson saw ( maraddona, ronaldo, romario, to name just three) that's one hell of a compliment.


A few years ago juventus fans voted Charles their best ever overseas player, again, specially after all these years, a massive compliment. They idolised the man.


My mother and uncle had the pleasure of knowing John Charles and said, as his gentle John nickname suggests, that he was a lovely, down to earth gentleman.

There will imo never by another john charles, and we should all be proud that the great man played for our club.
